Hi Mooners, Great video. I myself am dabbling with the idea of a small trimaran foldable easy to pack up Sailboat

I have had this boat for a couple of years (was only $999 then) and we love it. Please do not compare this to an inflatable kayak, it is built much tougher, has a wider beam so you can stand up in it, will accommodate a 3.5HP gas motor (I use a 55lb thrust electric w/50AH LiFePo4 battery) carry 500 lbs or 2 people with gear. It would have been easier to inflate by using the adapter that comes with the pump, still won't attach but makes it easier to hold, Scout now makes an electric pump with quick connects at both ends that inflates the boat fully with 'dial-a-pressure ' auto shut off, makes short work of inflating the boat. We have used our boat on many lakes, in swift water, and float fishing. We don't carry the boat since I added fold up launching wheels, less work getting to the water if it's a ways away. All in all a very good hybrid inflatable, reminds me of my Zodiac in build material and quality. Some tips...
Only remove the floor when drying out the boat, I roll the floor up with the boat.
Insert the seat planks with the boat partially inflated (when you switch from electric to foot pump is a good time.
Get a set of transom mount launch wheels (your spouse will thank you)
Pack the seat planks first with the boat on top to protect the boat.
Do not 'suck' all of the air out with the pump to roll, actually makes it harder. open valves let air out for 10 minutes, (deflate floor if leaving it in, fold sides to middle, roll from the stern after folding stern tubes into middle. Get two quick connect straps to secure the rolled boat, makes it easier to get in bag. Happy boating!

We bought a intex explorer that seems to out do this scout in every way. Set up time 10 mins. In the water and gone within 15 mins. 5 chambers plus are buoyancy aids!!! cheap as chips, sturdy and safe. Thanks Amazon U.K. For the money. Index wins hands down. In rough water on a lake in north Wales U.K. It coped well. Better than expected.

I would like to have seen the stability of the boat when you are both in it at the same time. Does it feel tippy with you both in it and someone stands up or moves around?

Isn't the hose just for the foot pump? The electric pump should hook directly up to the boat for inflation.

NICE! any chance we can see the USCG tag on the transom? I like to know the ratings for persons and motor size ect. The link does not show it, or mention it.

I have a nucanoe kayak. It's awesome but very large and wide like your scout. My paddle is extra long and I think that it would work better for your application as well. The paddle does cost like $140. But even if you could get another brand that was longer, I think you'd get around much better.

1st how do I get a free one
Next I know you have added a motor.
I have 2 kayaks ( only been doing it for 9 months)
A cheap alternative to paddling is 1 or 2 options
A wind paddle brand or cheaper eBay brand
Or what I use - a clear umbrella. Yes it works.
I hook the loop of the umbrella to my mounted fish pole holder and can open close as needed. I can then paddle or steer. Of course either only work with the wind and with you position. But it does alow for a break from paddling.

I use the electric air pump to deflate my air mattress when tent camping while on motorcycle adventure rides. Using the pump to deflate will remove all of the air making the inflatable as small a package as it was before it was inflated the first time.

1100.00 is not too much to pay for a quality inflatable. This summer, my wife and I purchased a pair of Hobie inflatable kayaks to bring along as we travel with out 5th wheel. They are equipped with pedal powered fins. They tuck away in our basement storage but do take up more space than your boat. We absolutely love having the option of heading out on the water!

Enjoy your boat!

Tom Bremer
Tom Bremer - 7 years ago
Hey Golfnut,What size gas engine does your inflatable Eagle 370 take?
Sean Duncan
Sean Duncan - 8 years ago
Well its not cheap but comparing it to an inflatable kayak is not apples to apples in my opinion. This boat is quite a bit more capable in its diversity then an inflatable kayak. Its weight capacity and capability to attach a motor are two big advantages to its wide range of potential uses. Those sea eagle kayaks are nice for sure but for this boats many potential uses Id say the price is reasonable if not pretty good. Especially when you can easily spend a grand on many 2 person kayaks out there for sale.

Nice video and location! Any reason the air floor can't be left inside when rolled up?
Maxi Marine
Maxi Marine - 8 years ago
Thanks, that make sense to clean out the interior from any small sharp rocks, particle, etc. in a camping/lake environment before rolling up.  We use inflatable boats mostly in a marine dock/sailboat environment which requires little to no cleanup.
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
+Maxi Marine Scout recommends removing the floor, so that is what we have done. I suspect it would be more difficult to roll up the boat if the floor was inside. Also, removing the floor allows us to wipe down the interior before storage. Thanks for your post!

Love the boat! We have a Sea Eagle, more for fishing and have an electric motor or use the oars to go down a river.  Sad we were not able to meet you when there last month. There were 6 of us which makes plans difficult at times. When there we took our boat on Lewis and Shoshone Lakes in Yellowstone for some great fishing! Enjoy and keep the videos coming. Next time in the same area, will try and meet with you!

Funny, saw some posts about the price. Roughly $1,100.00 for a good reliable boat seems right to me. I wouldn't think a floatie that costs a lot less would be reliable for more than tooling around the shore near camp. Great review, thanks!
Long Long Honeymoon

Sean & Kristy, thanks for a very enjoyable, and informative, review.  You're right, an inflatable is a great way to gain a whole new perspective while RVing.  And don't think we didn't notice the drone shot in there as well.  All in all, it made for a great video.

How would rate the storage would it fit a 72 hour kit in case one ventures to far from the camp and may need to hike back.
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
I'll talk more about the storage bag in the next video. I think it is designed to unzip and separate from the boat if necessary, and it does have a shoulder strap. So in theory, yes you could stash some provisions in the bag and hike back. (It would probably make the most sense to stash a proper backpack inside and use that for your return hike.)

Well, it's sort of a "pick your poison" situation. If you have boats that need to be mounted on the roof of your vehicle then you have the effort involved with that whole process. I bet it takes 10 minutes (and two people) to unstrap and remove a couple of boats from the roof of your truck, and getting them back onto the roof must involve at least as much effort. So the difference in setup & breakdown/storage time probably isn't that great.

Well now, where have I seen that idea of an inflatable boat before? well now, where? Great get Sean and Kristy. I like your boat better then the one we were lugging around. That Kayak/Row/Motorized inflatable is the perfect size boat for the RV'er. Since we sold our dingy inflatable we were thinking about inflatable kayaks but I wanted the ability to cover more water especially down in the keys or just around Florida. Your Scout will work great with a trolling motor and it will be quieter when trying to get closer to wild life as you shown but with the electric motor you can run up on that moose really, really fast. The only thing I see as a problem is when your wife wants to go over there but you want to stay here, so you know what that means? You will be going over there. Love you guys! Jonathon and Frankie

Thanks Jonathan & Frankie, we love you guys too! We plan to get a motor for the boat in the near future and shoot a vid about it. I'm thinking it would be fun to try on the Gulf of Mexico the next time we're in the Seaside area. You are right about the Keys too! This would be a lot of fun down there. Next year is our ten-year anniversary (married in Key West) so perhaps a return trip is in order. Happy trails to you guys! Sean

A question not about the boat. Wouldn't your truck be more useable and offer more protection from weather and theft, with a cap?
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
+sam white if we can find a good one we'll probably get it. I'd be happy with the right tonneau cover because that way we wouldn't lose visibility out the back of the cab - helps with towing and wildlife photography. But I need a cover that allows us to use our generator and easily access the interior. Most covers and caps add a lot of work and hassle when you need to access items in the bed of the truck.
sam white
sam white - 8 years ago
I have seen truck caps with doors along both side that would give you that access.
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
If we had a truck cap we would would gain more protection from weather and theft. However we would lose visibility and ease of access to the bed (where I am often retrieving filmmaking gear like tripods, starting our generator, etc.). If I could find a tonneau cover that would allow quick access and is compatible with the height of our generator then I would get it. Unfortunately the ones I've seen are flush with the top of the bed, and thus too low for our generator.

Nice! Think a dog (labrador retriever) would pop it?
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
I think it would be fine for a dog. The weight capacity is 500 pounds. The PVC is really tough, but you might wanna make sure the dog's nails aren't too sharp. :)

Could you insert the aluminum seats slightly before you complete full inflation..to make it easier?
Debi Coleman
Debi Coleman - 8 years ago
Reverse to remove seats.
Ray Barrick
Ray Barrick - 8 years ago
Quick Tip: Insert the seats before fulling inflating the side tubes and they will go in more easily and when you inflate the tubes the seats won't move.

Thank you for the review! Really curious to see a video with an electric motor. Let us know if you can find a better pump so you can avoid the foot pump for the last bit. Seems like it would be quicker if the pump would reverse to suck all the air out. Happy boating guys, can't wait to get our own after we get a new Airstream Basecamp!

I beg you please do not entertain using this boat on the open ocean. It would have disastrous consequences. This is at best a small lake boat, and allow me please to encourage you to use it for flyfishing. please have fun with your new boat and take care, you all hear . . .

How about using the aluminum seats as the bottom of the bag and the boat on top? That way it will sit on the cart easier and keep the boat from being penetrated thru the soft bottom of the bag?

Not really when you consider its capabilities and the fact that many quality 2 person kayaks out there cost a grand or more and don't have the diversity of this boat.

Great video. I am a kayaker and have been for several years. I had to down size to a 10 footer so I can haul it in the back of my pick up while the camper is in tow. Also I am a female so lifting the kayak in is not the easiest of task! You have triggered my interest in an inflatable now! I would not want to be without a means to enjoy the view of wildlife, caves and even fishing in places a boat could not go. I have paddled lakes in Tennessee and Alabama. I would have been estatic to see a mouse like that. I have enjoyed them while camping in Yellowstone National Park. Thanks for the review, safe travels. I enjoy your channel.

We carry a two person SeaEagle FastTrack 385 12 1/2' inflatable kayak with our Airstream. The pros are it is light, about 34lbs, and folds up to a small footprint. While inflating it is a breeze when it comes to packing it you have to make sure its dry when you store it. Getting the boat completely dry takes some time as water gets into every nook and cranny. Often I have to unpack it to dry it better when I have more time. Water seems to get inside easily; every time you get in/out, the smallest waves break over the bow and then boat starts to paddle heavy. The pontoon design of the Scout 365 probably helps from getting wet which is a plus. The FastTrack would not be a good option in cold water lakes. I think the hassles of packing it up dry and taking in water overcomes the advantages of an inflatable kayak. I'm thinking of switching to the Wilderness Pamlico 145T. This kayak allows the front seat to slide back for solo use. has a covered bow and dry storage. Since I have a camper shell on my truck with a Yakima base rack I think it would be easier/faster to take a kayak off the roof vs deflating, cleaning off and drying out an inflatable. The price of the Pamlico is the same as my FastTrack and the Scout inflatable.

I think the Scout would be better with an electric or small outboard motor. I don't think you could paddle very far with the Scout unless you rowed it like a row boat facing the stern. Watching the video and paddling with the kayak paddles looked awkward. Any wind would make it much more difficult to travel any distance.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sean & Kristy, nice boat in a bag you have there. I have an inflatable kayak and enjoy it. Inflatables aren't for everyone. What matters is that it's right for you. You both are now able to enjoy your time on the water and look at the world from a different perspective. Great attitude and sense of humor.

does the boat stay stable if you remove the one of or both of the seats?
rowing would probably be a lot easier sitting on the floor... I would think you could bicycle motion row from that position.
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
+tim kirwin we'll give it a try the next time out. I agree that it might work well just sitting on the floor (except you might get a little wet?)

Thanks form the review. I have been debating a kayak and this seems like a lot of effort for one person.
Long Long Honeymoon
Long Long Honeymoon - 8 years ago
+Jenn Grover you can get inflatable kayaks too. That might be a good option for you. With a non inflatable kayak you'll have to deal with the storage issue, which I think could be a hassle for one person.

curious as to if Scout has responded to why the electric pump doesn't have the correct attachment? Great video, I love wildlife watching but I built a boat because we have aligators
John Hess
John Hess - 8 years ago
sreesekelley Kinda looks like this is a standard pump they already offer for their non-boat inflatables so I don't think it really was designed specifically for the boat.
