If you decide to buy somewhere else or would like to support the show, please give at https://www.paypal.me/surfnshow In this episode I put the “White Noiz” by Haydenshapes through the paces in 2-6’ surf. According to the HS website the White Noiz is a pro model for Craig Anderson as a Daily Driver for waves fitting the 1-4’ range. After thorough testing of two stock boards (5’8” and 5’9”) I liked this model best in 3-6’ surf due to its length and rocker. The White Noiz suits my style of surfing better as a High Performance shortboard (HPSB) for Southern CA waves. The bigger the surf the better this model performed. I found it to be very user friendly with a HPSB vibe. I pushed both boards in 1-2’ surf and concluded that both boards carried good speed but lacked agility in the tight pocket of a 1-2’ wave. The 5’8” performed better in 1-2’ surf due to it being 1” shorter but ideally, I would need to order this model custom to maximize performance in smaller surf. I highly recommend the White Noiz for intermediate – advanced surfers as a Daily Driver/HPSB in 3-6’+ surf. If I were going to use the White Noiz as a 1 board quiver for 1-6’ surf, I would custom order it at 5’7” x 19 x 2 5/16. The shorter length, with a little more width, and thickness would make this model ideal for smaller waves and still shred overhead surf. Stock Board DIMS Tested for this review: 5’8” x 18.62 x 2.25 Liters 24.95 5’9” x 18.75 x 2.25 Liters 25.5 My Height: 5’9” My Weight: 160 lb or 72.57 kg Suggested Fins: Futures Fins: HS1 or Jordy’s Naked Viking Fins: Large “Peregrine” Apex Series

Hi Noel! Looking sharp. How do you compare this board to the Fever? Great review!

this board looks very similar to the air17x by js. Your surfing on it too. Medium entry, exit rockers, single to double concaves, similar dimensions. Wondering to hear your thoughts..?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Mosbys The Air17X is a bit shorter in length so it’s quicker in transition and rail to rail. I think the Air17X might be a little faster down the line but it’s also a little harder to surf. The WN is very user friendly...

lohena1 The HG is way looser and faster rail to rail. They fit the same wave range but they surf completely different. My HG was 5’6” and my WN was 5’9”... those 3” in length make all the difference in the world when it comes to how boards feel under foot.

Noel, I'm a big fan of your channel, great knowledgeable reviews! What would be your advise on Fins for 6.10' Walden Mini Mega Magic thruster set up? I'm 5.10'-200lb intermediate level downsizing from longboard to all-conditions short board, mainly surfing gulf-coast wind swells 3-5ft. Looking to advance into carving, bottom turns and fast transitioning. Thanks

Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Paul Morgan It’s really a preference... longer boards in 1-4’ makes my turns delayed... feels like I’m surfing in slow motion. When the waves are 4-6’ a board my height feels good but I still like my HPSB’s at 5’7”... 2” shorter than my height. 6-8’ surf I like my boards at 5’9”
Paul Morgan
Paul Morgan - 4 years ago
@Surf n Show Reviews What are your thoughts on shorter guys like Connor and myself. Should we try keep our HPSB as close to our height or stick with ideal vol say 26lts. Waves 3to6ft
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Paul Morgan He’s surfing waves with a bit more power, and I’m sure he rides shorter boards in smaller waves.

A 5'9" board just isn't small enough for an adult. Carl Hayward would be stoked on how much has changed.

Looks like it will struggle in East Coast wind chop, but on those clean waves that tech looks good.
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Catch the Wave The bouncy around on the bigger wave was due to the white foam on the wave face from the set wave before the one I caught. This board will go good in chop... it’s PU foam not EPS.

Noel, seeing as you consider it more of a daily driver, how similar is it to a pyzel phantom? Cheers for the quality reviews mate!..
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
ben clarke Phantom has more foam forward so it paddles a little better. The WN might be a tad more responsive but we’re splitting hairs here. Due to more foam forward the Phantom is more user friendly...

I had a 5'8 in the same construction and dimensions and took it out for the first time on a 3-6 foot barreling day at a nice beach break. Board felt like magic with great flow and awesome speed. Sadly I snapped it on a back side barrel that same day ): I found another used 5'8 but a little wider and coming in at 25.5 liters. Still love it but definitely not as much pop and speed as the PEC and not quite as good in barreling surf. Great review thanks!

At your weight and height, all the Fin package suggestions would seem to point you to a Medium sized fin. However, you tend to enjoy Large size fins. You and I are similar height and weight, and unfortunately I don't have the ability to try different fins. Why do you prefer Large and should we ignore the "suggestions" and go for a Large set? I reckon it still comes down to the individual and which size feels the best.
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Paul Stanfield I like a large fin due to it having a wider base. The wider base allows me to push harder off the bottom to generate more speed. The downside sometimes can be that a board feels tight due to much fin depth with a large fin or its creating too much lift in bigger waves and it’s hard for me to keep the rail engaged. In those cases I switch to a medium fin.

If you are thinking about trying a large fin then I recommend a pivot set or a set like Al Merrick fins that have a smaller center fin to keep the board loose.

Holy crap! You did it! I told you, over three years ago. Maybe you like the Fever a bit better. Btw, I'm 6'4'' x 180 or less, I ride White Noiz in 6'1'' and 6'1.5''. I use and F8 Futures for the middle fin, and Scimitar or F6 side fins,.. bigger back fin works best for me, Merrick fins feel skittish for me with the smaller back fin per the Merric set. Craig Anderson rides this in powerful waves. Some great carvy-smooth surfing (some not) on this you're doing Noel, great vid.

Hi, Noel. Congrats for one more great review!

Could you answer a important question for me?

I always see you report your biotype (height and weight) and your theory for the sizes and volumes of the boards you have been using.

My question is, for my biotype (5'5" and 141 lbs/ 44years old) what do you suggest for a performance board for day-to-day use in waves 1 - 3 feet?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Alberto Almeida Here are some liters you think about for your weight.

Expert/Pro level surfer= 22.5-23.5 liters

Intermediate= 25.5-27
