I use a al merrick flyer2 6“6 fish since 2005 and really try to keep my weight at 90kg I am 189cm - I am really interested in getting a smaller board - u think a 5“10 bb2 is ok or way much too small?

I just got one about 2 weeks ago, in 5'10 X 19 3/4 X 2 3/8= 29.3L, i defiantly think its a lot faster. great board. will be hard to ever go back to riding a PU set up again

HI benny I have a blak box 2 hyfi i am really happy in small waves, but when get chest high or bigger, its kind of difficult to turn, (or may be I am just a bad surfer), anyway I am thinking of getting a board for bigger waves, having in mind that I have de blak box 2, and trying to have two board quiver, wich board you recomend ? for bigger waves chest to may be a few feet over head. I look the lost v3 stealth and rocket, the lost quiver killer also, firewire de scifi o gamma, I am an intermediate sometimes not so intermediate surfer, love the show greetings from mexico. waiting for some reply.

Dont get the sci-fi for bigger waves its a bit too skatey and loose but i would definitely recommend the gamma tho

Love my bb2 hyfi but have snapped 3 and folded a 4th in 12mths. To JS credit they replaced 3 boards but I won’t be buying another

I'm currently surfing a 5'10 CI sampler and a 6'2 CI Grabbit as my 'step up'.. would you recommend the BB2 or monsta box for a replacement for the sampler? Mainly used in beachys

Keen on one of these...How long for the puddle fish review? I have come pretty close to getting one a few times in the last few weeks, but want to see someone surf one or read a good review first. Hard to relate to any other board!

Hi I had a regular blak box 6.1 for 3 months, snapped it and got it repaired but I loved this board so much I bought a 6.0 HiFy. I put quads in it and could not agree more : Its fast, forgiving and makes me surf better (or at least think I do !!) Really a superbe board !

Hi Chris, I've had both and LOVE both! I surfed the CI Fred Rubble at 6'6 and more of a step-up for slightly bigger waves but it is one of the most capable and loved all rounders I know of. I know surfers at all skill levels that swear it's the best board they've ever had (Cozza, looking at you). They're both dynamic yet easy to ride.

The BB2, I feel, has the edge in smaller, more average conditions but it loses its edge when it gets solid (few feet overhead+). But I took the Fred Rubble on two trips to the Mentawais and it never flinched, even in big, powerful surf.

If anyone has ridden both, please chime in here and share your opinion :)

Hi Benny, I'm about the same size as you, but I have done approx 20 more laps around the sun than you. You mentioned that the build technology in this board still enabled it to sit in the water about the same as a PU, but does that mean it has the same buoyancy as a PU or greater? Buoyancy is purely a product of weight - displacement - and nothing else.

Ant D thanks for your reply. At 49, 6'3,"now a weekend warrior with average fitness for my age, 235 pounds, & declining surf ability, I have been going for boards with higher volume. However, these higher volume boards may be "part," but not all, of my surfing ability's reverse trend. A number of credible surfboard volume calculators recommended volumes far exceeding 55L! I have a 6'10" Hypto FF @ 54L & it's too much board for me. I guess it depends on where the foam is concentrated in the foil. So having said that, you might have the correct approx volume but the incorrect foil profile? For me, this makes it difficult to choose a board on volume alone, and near impossible to work out unless you surf the actual board!

Glen , I'm 48 at 210 lbs I got a 6-6 @ 41.6 but found it to carry a bit more float than I was used to. Will NOT sell the board though because it is so easy to catch waves and generate speed. I recently bought a 6'3" @ 36.4 and it didn't have the same "pop" but i had it in gutless mush point break and it still paddled great. I'know it will go good in better waves so I'll keep it for good days. I'd say you can reduce your volume by 5-8% with ease.

Hi Glenn, I'm no expert on this but EPS foam is more buoyant vs. PU. However, there other materials that go into the making of a board and, as mentioned, it feels like some alternate construction boards 'feel' more like traditional PU than they used to (think early Surftech)
