look at the video i did on m new 6hp portable,The motor kicks ass ,fast,easy to load good range with gas tank open range, i built two jackplates,i will add the new jackplate in aq week.

get a older yamaha malta .. all the sailing schools use em over here.. they never die... and light enough to carry and put on.. a 10 hp motor is a hassle.. unless u get a brand new one..

Check out copperhead mud motors. The 6.5hp and the 12hp are great for small boats. Can go through anything and they are light weight

Nice video... good luck. I been fishing out of 12 foot Jon for years. I just throw in the back of the truck. This year up graded to a used 5 HP Yamaha 2 stroke with internal tank. Caught many of muskie and small mouth out of it.

Can you please tell us where you bought the yamaha? We bought a 3.5 mercury from bass pro shop and it keeps leaking oil on us. We keep bringing it to their shop for fixing. We're now too tired of keep bringing it back to bass pro shop for repair.

i live in tulsa. In 1990 i got a similar idea except i wanted something for the upper illinois river for the sand bass run and when i didn't want to take my bass boat. Coleman used to make an 11 ft boat they called the crawdad. It came in 2 trims. The one i got had a carpeted floor and swivel seats. I wired mine so i could mount a trolling motor on the front. I came across a trailer that is good because it stuck out too far to be legal. In oklahoma you have to have 3/4 of the load inside the bed, measured before the tail gate. You should check the laws. My brother lives in pearland, tx and said our laws are ablut the same. I ended up selling mine because even tbough i could pull it with a honda gold wing and did once for laughs, a 4 horse yamaha wasn't enough motor. You will be amazed how much weight you will have. a trolling motor battery alone will weigh 50 lbs. Everything sounds like fun but do yourself a favor and get more motor NOW. After you use it, it will be worth less. to put this in perspective, minkota used to sell a 3 and a 4 hp 12 volt trolling motor. They now just market the thrust numbers. The point is this. Your outboard will not work as well as a high quality 12 volt and nowhere near what a 24 will do.

Hello i have fished when i was a kid and recently wanted to get back into it 20 years later. I have been researching fishing kayaks all day and stumbled across your video which is obviously not a kayak. Now you have my wheels turning. I have 2 little boys and now that I see how easy it is to load and unload a jon boat into a truck I think a small jon boat like yours would be alot more family friendly. Any helpful tips now that you have a couple years experience with this setup?

@mixflip hello buy the widest boat for more people, my son is 6"4 230lb. the boat work out fine in smooth water..the 12 ft is best for one person.not a family.

Check out my setup its a tracker 10 with a 3.5 hp holds good in choppy water and barge traffic never failed on me 10 ft tracker jon boat flat bottom with a 3.5 hp 2013 4 stroke outboard

@manko330 Good boat. I entered key words "motorized lightweight boat" and came to your video. I live in So. NH, right along Great Bay, and the Striped Bass fishing here is incredible (30-40 pounders are common), but getting out there on a wide canoe isn't the best bet--especially for two! It's still on the ocean, and they're not small fish, so with 2 ppl fishing, I want something very stable and be able to both stand up w/o worrying about flipping in the water. We have a big common dock (for kayak, canoe launches), so I wanted something I could easily take down there, and still be able to launch it.

you should adapt it for floundering too im near corpus and the flounder are fun at night in the shallows put a removable lean post on the bow with underwater lights and a trolling motor on the back with a switch set the motor to desired speed and steer with your gig as soon as i can get a clear title to the 12 ft alumacraft i have im going to do just that with a 15 hp gas for long distance runs and trolling motor for fishing removable so i can also use it on the lake for bass crappie and cats

now with a finish boat and time on the boat .love it .easy to load. plus rides nice and handles saltwater fishing. one thing is I am the only rider. two people 50/50.
