If you decide to buy somewhere else or would like to support the show, please donate at https://www.paypal.me/surfnshow In this review I get two Puddle Jumper HP surfboards from Lost to test. Both boards are stock 5’3” x 19.63 x 2.35 Liters of volume 26.75. The waves we got for testing were ideal for this model in the 1-3’ range. One board is your typical polyurethane foam with polyester resin, and the other construction is something brand new Lost will be releasing this summer called C4. The C4 construction is still a bit of a secret and I don’t know all that goes into this new technology but it felt really good. Great flex and feel with increased speed in every turn. I also noticed less pressure dents on the deck of the C4 board compared to the PU and Lost’s other popular construction they call Carbon Wrap. I was very impressed with this little High Performance groveler in the pocket and it’s down the line speed. This Lost Puddle Jumper HP is a favorite of mine for 2018 in the 1-3’ wave range.

Great review. Very helpful. What length PJHP would you recommend for me?I’m 5’11”, 170 lb, 47 years old. Intermediate surfer, not getting younger. San Diego beaches and reefs. My shortboards are 5’10”, 6’0”. Also ride 5’6” and 5’8” keel fin fish. PJHP or regular PJ? And What length would you recommend in both? Thank you

Hey Noel. Another PJHP question for you. I've been riding my PJHP as a twin + trailer. It feels really good and responsive but the last time I was out I was having a hard time making sections that I felt like I should have been able to make. I want to put in some quads like you recommend to see if that would give me more speed and performance. I know you recommended using upright fins like the Reactors but the only quads I have are the FCS II DHD large quads. Do you think that fin would work well on the PJHP or should I invest in another set of fins? Thanks as always for your help.

Immiroberts Both boards are epic!!! The RW does tighter turns in the hook and incredible raps in the pocket for a small wave board. The PJHP has a really Wide Tail so it’s really quick down the line and with the right set of Upright fins it will get in the hook too. Cheers!!!

Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 5 years ago
Waldo doo Both boards are epic!! The Gremlin Paddles better and a bit faster down the line and the PJHP is a little better in the pocket as a Quad. I didn’t care for the PJHP as a Thruster. The tail was too wide and the board wanted to stay flat in my turns.

Hey Noel. Love your videos. I have a 5'7 lib tech PJ for groveling. Do you think I could do the same length for the HP? I would be going down from 33.9 liters to 31. I am thinking it would work at that size in better waves but I'm not sure and the slimmed down shape would help with performance. I am an intermediate surfer and weigh about 172.

Sea Monkey Going down 2.9 liters is a lot... I like to think for every liter it’s roughly 8-10lbs. So if I loose 10lbs I will drop 1 liter of foam. Your almost dropping 3 liters... I would try to demo that board before you buy it.

Thanks Noel...been riding this board on the smaller 1-3 ft days in HB with the AM (PC) large fronts and Reactor medium rears with success but still feels a bit sticky at times. I don't have a lot of options with upright fins so trying the AM (PC) mediums up front on the next run. Too bad it's not Futures because I already have the HS1 and I could just throw in the medium rears. Definitely liking it as a quad though so thanks for the review..!! Cheers.

Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
Christian69James I would try that board with a more upright side fins in Large and a Upright Medium Quad Rears like the Reactors. You should try it with fins that you have first and then try what I recommend. I like to use Large Side fins and Medium Quad Rears.

Personally didn’t click with this board. I rode it with the same quad HS large fins. For me it tended to bog or want to bog. The rails are thinned down, as is the tail and the V is very extreme, it rocked from rail to rail a little too easy. Sold it after three surfs, but it looked good under your feet.

Hi Noel, when choosing a small wave board which would you choose between the Lost Puddle Jumper HP and the Puddle Jumper Fish? Keeping in mind it would be for 1-3 foot fat waves. Which did you prefer for these waves? I ride a 29.5L everyday driver and was thinking of going up to 32L for this type of board due to the waves I’ll be riding. I’m same weight as you. Do you have any other favourite boards in this range? What about carbon v PU for bumpy wind affected waves? Cheers
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
Scott Hamilton I like the PJHP better... a bit more performance. Both boards are fun and go good In gutless 1-3’ surf. If you surf a lot of choppy surf then I would stick to PU. EPS goes better in cleaner surf.

I m ordering the pjhp in cw ! Futures! Fin wise have you tried flat inside fins or only v foil. I have the blackstix in thruster on my neckbeard but even thou it s faster i feel like they stick too much on the wave and release later than my am2 for example. Those hayden shapes quad set behave like that as well ?

Another great show, really intrigued by this board. However, given all these new and exotic constructions, I think you should report WEIGHT and DENSITY as well as length and volume. That’s what I was thinking Noel.....I’m tied between the Uber Driver and the PJHP....I want to keep the extra speed and glide of the PJHP but have it go rail to rail easily. My local spot has a flat take off that hollows up inside so flat fishy entry rocker works.....
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
Matthew Jones I would go PJHP for sure...
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones - 6 years ago
Hi Noel, what’s your thoughts on pulling the width of the PJHP in a little to help it go rail to rail a bit quicker? Not to take away the speed that the width will give but just enough to give it a bit more quickness rail to rail...
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
Matthew Jones I think that could go good... this board feels quick rail to rail as a Quad but I know what your thinking. All I can say is try it... sometimes a small change like that could make it magic or just so so. My suggestion would be don’t go too narrow... you will need that surface area for lift and speed and it also makes a Short Board like this a bit more stable. Cheers...

Noel awesome review. Curious if you think this C4 construction is as good as dampening in chop as the FireWire. I had a V2 rocket in their cork construction and hated it. It’s durability was amazing but the paddling was not good in chop. I loved my libtec puddle jumper but the fins were always an issue. I’d. Love to get the HP one if it’s durable especially if it’s as durable as FireWire.

Do you surf your small wave boards with more volume than your standard shortboards?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
mitch mcmaster Roughly the same volume. If the board has a lot of volume under the chest and the nose is wide with low entry rocker then I have all the paddle I need. Keeping the board short and sensitive helps me be creative in small waves. Too much volume in these small hybrid boards make the front end heavy.
