I'm not sure what the definition of sloppy surf is but I've had my v3 in pretty deplorable conditions and it does just fine. Certainly a true groveler might be a little more ideal but I wouldn't scare anyone away from from the v3 based on the idea that it likes better waves. If I was forced to throw all but one of my boards away the v3 would be the keeper hands down. I love this board so much that I bought an extra one in case one goes out of commission.
