Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Surfboard Review

The ...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux is a “new” design that morphs the classic, OG RNF and the newer, wider tailed RNF Quint. This resulting shape can be ridden with a variety of fin configurations including twin fin, 2+1, quad, thruster, even twin fin with quad trailers. Taking this design and building it in Lib Tech's MBC construction produces a high performance, durable, no nonsense surfboard that takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Real guys told me RNF would not be redundant and would be a blast!
Would the 5’10” work at around 35 liters, or should I go 5’8” model?
I don’t have a real shortboard for comparison. Thanks!
Some boards ride significantly better at lower volumes. High performance shortboards come to mind as the most obvious ones, as these designs have concave bottoms and are not designed to be surfed over-foamed.
Our experience with the Lost Round Nose Fish, all species, is that they like to be surfed at your high performance shortboard volume or maybe a touch above. If you surf them at this volume, they paddle relatively easily, have a loose feel on the wave and better glide than shortboards.
Where these boards don’t work as well is if you size them at your grovel volume or higher. If you are looking at sizing the RNF at these volumes, you’d be better off with other Lost boards like the Puddle Jumpers for groveling, or LazyBoy/EZUP for volumes higher than grovel size. In our experience, the RNFs don’t perform well with all that extra foam and plow through the water when paddling/catching waves, making the extra volume more difficult to surf rather than less difficult like on most boards.
Hope this info helps. If you have any more questions or would like to place an order for one of these boards, please give us a call at the shop 252-987-6000. Thanks!
