Why can’t they just put a pointy bow on this The squared off now just looks stupid

I like square - more space

Much more fishing space on that front deck than a v-bow. That's the advantage....it's great for throwing a cast net off of or even allowing 2 people to fish off the bow. Also adds to the stability of the boat when walking from side to side, less rocking motion than a v-bow.

Don’t ever call a boat unsinkable, you’ll curse your damn self.

If they had a dual console version of this boat, I would buy one...
I would want the dual consoles to be further forward against that large front storage compartment. And with a nice tall windshield with the hinged center walk thru.

I bought one in August of 2018. One year later, the livewell still doesn't work and I can only get 5000 rpm and 30 mph out of my 60 hp Mercury with standard prop. I mentioned both things to Bass Pro shop when I took it in for 20 hour service. They disregarded the rpm performance comment and told me to put the boat in drive and move forward before turning on livewell pump. Didn't work.....very disappointing. Like the feel and spaciousness of the boat, but those 2 things tick me off now that my one year warranty is coming up.

@Aaron Morgan I'll try to blow the water back out next time I'm on the water, sounds like a tempy fix if it worked for you. Thanks, I could make an inappropriate joke here but I'll refrain. Ha!

@Brad Doe I was assuming it was the impeller stuck or something, I hadn't considered an air pressure issue.
Aaron Morgan
Aaron Morgan - 5 years ago
@Brad Doe Oh yeah. Mine does the same exact thing as far as I can hear it come on, but nothing happens. If I blow air back through it, then turn it back on it works fine. And I'll leave it on auto, and it cuts on and off without a problem.

@Aaron Morgan Thanks for the suggestion, but the pump runs....you can hear it....but it's not pulling the water up from the intake hole in the hull. I think this is because the pump is situated higher than the fill hose in the raceway on the output side of the pump. The fill hose comes out of the raceway and goes UP about 4" to tie into the pump outlet fitting. Therefore when the pump shuts off, the water in the line stays in the line instead of draining and creates an air block for the next time you try to run it. The air block due to the water in the line then prevents the pump from sucking up new water on the intake side. If the pump was mounted directly on the hull bottom at the inlet hole, this may not happen. Instead, they have it mounted on about a 4" piece of hose sticking straight up higher off the hull bottom between the inlet hole and the pump intake. When I called Bass Pro, they said it's a common problem with the boat!!!! They told me on the phone they would put a self priming pump in. When I got there the guy said I already had the "good" version of the pump and blew me off saying to have the boat moving forward before you start the pump. HUH? If I don't use the boat for a couple of weeks, the pump primes the first time ok because the water in the pipe has evaporated some, allowing air to initially push through to the livewell as it pulls the water up. But don't shut it off! Won't prime again that trip.

@Brad Doe This is going to sound weird, but go with me on this. Unscrew the white flow regulator all the way off inside the livewell next time you're on the water. Put your mouth around the white pipe, and blow until you hear and feel that it freed up the impeller. It's like the impeller gets stuck and needs a little nudging if it hasn't been run in a bit. On land, you could use a water hose to shoot some water through it and free it up. But in a pinch out on the water, that takes about 30 seconds, and I promise you it'll free it up and start working. I don't use my live well too much, but if I did I would definitely change out my live well pump. But you also sound like you might have a blockage in your drain lines. Give it a good blast with the hose before you go out

Brad Doe - 5 years ago
@Aaron Morgan That's what I will wind up doing....I hope the warranty is longer than a year on the motor. I should have started this investigation into my problems earlier. Does your livewell work? Mine fills the first time, then when you cut it off it drains and won't refill. Sounds like an airlock preventing the pump from priming. Also last time I tried it, the overflow drain didn't work either and it flooded my boat while I was off catching bait with my cast net.

@Brad Doe I have a 4 blade stainless Trophy the dealer had pre-installed, but from what I understand a 4 blade should in theory have a lower top speed but better hole shot. And my RPMs top out from 5900-6000 depending on conditions. Sounds like something isn't quite right with your outboard. I'd contact Mercury as opposed to Mako. The warranties should be separate.

Brad Doe - 5 years ago
@Aaron Morgan Yes Aaron, I always trim up for the highest rpm/speed after getting on plane. You're loaded down more than me. I am by myself with 6 gallons of gas and the trolling motor and no ice. RPM tops is 5000, speed with gps in a light chop is 30 mph. I have the standard prop instead of the stainless used in this video, but I wouldn't think it would make that much difference from the boat's results in this video. (36 mph, 6000 rpm) Thanks for replying by the way....
Aaron Morgan
Aaron Morgan - 5 years ago
@Brad Doe Are you trimming your motor up? Just asking in case you're a new boater. If you leave it all the way down, you'll never achieve top speed. Secondly, it performs better on a light chop than it does on glass, as the boat glides across the chop. Mine goes anywhere from 33-37mph depending on load and conditions. With 12 gallons of fuel, 20lbs of ice in a second cooler, the weight of my trolling motor, and my wife and 4 year old in the boat a few weeks ago, I was doing 33-34mph.

@MAKO Saltwater Fishing Boats OK....so here's the response I get from customer service at the link you provided after I explained my problem and that the dealer didn't help me:

"Good morning.

@revenge69ful It's got the prop that they supply from the factory, so I would hope it's right. I just want the 36 mph that this guy in this video got with the same motor. Maybe the throttle linkage isn't adjusted properly to open the motor all the way? They didn't check into it at all when I mentioned it to the guy at Bass Pro. I imagine this boat weighs a bit more than your Tracker due to the hull design and all that extra fiberglass it has versus a v-hull bow.

Brad Doe that’s just not right I have a 16’ bass tracker with all kinds of decking and it does 25 mph with an 18 hp Nissan four stroke ThT thing should fly with a 60 Sounds like you need a prop with less pitch to bring that rpm up

I appreciate Mr. Vance's in depth and objective reviews, however, I encourage him to use his position and influence for good in the boating community by wearing a life jacket. I know of two boaters who have drowned... because they weren't wearing life jackets. Thanks again for the reviews.

You mention full performance stats available on Boatingmag.com, but when I check out their website and online buying guide, they don't even have a single test showing for any Mako, much less this one - what gives?

I’m curious.... how does this boat perform when weight is added. Let’s say.. with 3 grown men, water in the livewell, ice and drinks in the cooler., a trolling motor and battery. Will it plane out and run at a decent speed? I have the 16 pro skiff maxed out with a 40hp. Under those same conditions my boat is a “Dog” it just plows water.

gas tank swells up underneath aft deck. Cant get it out on a hot day. they should cut a hatch so that you can fill it without removal. There is no forward cleat to use an anchor- only cleats on the gunnels. Nevertheless, its a solid boat, paid $16,000
