HI Mike, quick question. What's the average cost of a conversion vs cost of new bass boat? i don't really want to spend 18K on entry level bass boat. i can purchase a new 14' Jon and trailer for around 2K just wondering how much to convert. Thanks

I bought a 40 4-stroke merc for my 15' whale super sport 10 years ago. Replaced a 30 year old 40hp 2-stroke Johnson. Rookie mistake! Anyway, thing purrs nicely but the boat sits at a comical angle when no one is in it, as the engine weighs a hundred more pounds at least.

Yeah The 4 strokes are freaking heavy. I thought the 20 horse was pretty innovative with its weight reduction

The Xi5 has a foot pedal, not as responsive as a cable steer. I have the xi5 and highly recommend it.

@Michael LopezThe ultrex is built like brick s$#@t house and is excellent for tournament use, the xi5 is for the moderate run n gun fisherman. That's is where price differs. By all means I'm definitely not knocking the ultrex. If I want something and can afford it im buying it and encourage other to do the same. "Dont cheat yourself, treat yourself" is my motto. We only live once. ✌keep doing the builds & Hopefully one day you can have your own line of boats out in the market.

@Michael Lopez I have the GPS package 80lb xi5. It $700 cheaper than the ultrex. I could pair it up with my lowrance HDS gen3 to follow contour depths. Though I currently dont have it paired it still allows you to record 8 routes up to 4 miles long via remote control. Spot lock, heading lock, jog feature, wireless foot pedal, built in sonar transducer, motor can be attached to a lockable quick release mount "sold separately" for easy removal to transfer motor to another boat with a 2nd quik release mound. The only CON is that I have to lift moto by hand and not a cable. But I dont fish BIG water so lifting it without a cable isn't an issue for me. But being able to swap the motor to another smaller boat within seconds is why I chose the MG xi5.

I just got a 2019 Yamaha f25 to replace my old jonson 25 and was very impressed fuel mileage hole shot everything pretty sure youll like it.i like mercury just as good as the Yamaha hope you like it as much as i like mine

@Michael Lopez yes everything i put it on a 1544 lowe jon boat it was a 1974 jonson 25 runs great still but 17 gps me and a buddy now 24 me and him.the only reason i got the Yamaha instead of the mercury was 450 dollars cheaper and its like do i want a red apple or a green apple as far as those to names are concerned to me.i really think your going to be able to play with props to get more speed then the factory prop
