40 000 + VAT? Insanely overpriced, Suzuki, mercury and evinrude have much lighter engines which cost less than 1/3 the price and perform much better too.

A great review Hugo, especially as to the technicalities of the engine. It would probably sound better and be more efficient if it wasn't based on a GM engine. I also wonder as to the name? OXE takes it awfully close to the terrible NOX emissions, diesel is now so well renowned for!

These outboards are obviously commercial and for the military, not for flash gits out for weekend fishing trips with there buddy's for a start there pig ugly,but if your using your boat 15hrs a day every day diesel is the way to go,not only for fuel saving but torque at low revs no spark ignition no highly combustible fuel on board and you can go a third further with the fuel you have on board.Service just drop the engine oil,no spark plugs ht leads etc.My Diesel engine on my boat is 11yrs old 33.000hrs never missed a beat,only thing that it has is an oil change and filter every year other than that never spent a penny on it except changed two drive belts that I kept for spares.Diesel every time,they won't sell any in America unless your life depended on a outboard and fuel efficiency and you expect to keep it working hard for a couple of decades.

its the first generation, its pretty interesting to be sure but ill wait for a while longer till the tech improves and maybe the price evens out a little bit. in the meanwhile im sure they will do well with military and yacht tenders sales.

Ask the price I did at the time it was the only company selling them .are you ready? $150,000 that's installed.was told by the dealer they were targeting military and super Yachts owners that most people could not afford these engines these engines weigh in at 771 pounds they're loud and very finicky if the fuel is contaminated in any way also they have a tendency to break down quite often being the dealer for this engine has two offices one in Annapolis Maryland the other one in Miami Florida would be quite hard to find a qualified technician to work on it. I spoke to Cox motors I believe this is the same company good luck you you purchase one or two

Do I missunderstand you when you say that cox motors and the oxe motors are the same company? Oxe diesel is from a company called cimco marine, they are converting opel engines into outboards upp to 200 horsepower. Soon they are ready with their newer modell 300 hp, a converted bmw 3l. Cox is from a different company..

The engine block itself is a modified block from a Mercury Verado gasoline engine. The maintenance schedule’s are insanely short on this thing. The concept is cool but way to expensive......

Quite a let down to be honest. An evinrude etec g2 200 uses less fuel across its entire rev range, while having more torque, weighing about 120kg less and costing $50,000 less. No idea who'd buy this.

@HDaviator Check out COX Diesel Outboard... their engines will be available for purchase by the end of this year.
As you said diesel outboards are mainly targeted for the single fuel carrying personals mainly military some fisheries industries and anyone who needs outboards for commercial use .
OXE wanted to be the first to the market before COX thus their approach of utilising a GM engine, where as COX was designed and built to be a diesel outboard.
The first ever vertical crank on a diesel engine as well.

there's no-way a petrol evinrude 200 (or any petrol for that matter) is going to produce more torque than this diesel......just ridiculous. Same with the economy ........1 ltre per mile on a boat this size and weight at 30 knots is exceptional

Perhaps government agencies to unify their bulk fuel purchasing. That is the only situation where it makes sense. A diesel outboard is cool because I much prefer to have diesel on the boat than gasoline, but you are right, this isn't the one. Hopefully someone will design a better one.

I don't get the benefit of these diesel outboards. My 4 stroke 200 Yammy gets 35 liters per hour doing the same speed. Diesel isn't any cheaper than gas. It stinks and its loud. Ill stick with my 4 stroke gas.

Diesel does stink. It's a smell I don't find unpleasant in the least though... Unburnt fuel on the other hand is quite unpleasant to me.

Another benefit is that you can use "taxfree" diesel. So you get much cheaper fuel.

One major advantage where I do my boating (although I have inboards) is that there is nowhere that sells petrol (gas). Remember that this is a video by a UK magazine, primarily aimed at UK/European viewers.
