If you decide to buy somewhere else or would like to support the show, please give at https://www.paypal.me/surfnshow In this episode I put the “Pyzalien 2” through the paces in 1-6’+ surf. We started our board testing at BSR Surf Resort in Waco, TX and the more I rode this model it quickly became a Favorite. The Pyzalien 2 is fast down the line and offers quick rail to rail transitions with excellent projection and hold in a wide range of wave sizes. I also found it to be very versatile with different fin set up options to suit surfers that like Thrusters, Quads, and Twin + Trailer in 1-7’ surf. This board excelled in 3-7’ surf and blew my mind in 1-2’ surf with it’s quick get up and go speed as a small wave performance board. The Pyzel website claims a pretty wide wave range from 2-10’ surf and they may have understated the low-end range on this model as it exceeded my expectations in 1’ surf. The Pyzalien 2 is a FAVORITE of mine for the Daily Driver category but it’s truly a 1 board quiver for surfers looking for a board that excels in 1-7’ surf. I highly recommend the Pyzalien 2 for intermediate – pro level surfers. Surfboard Dimensions: Custom PU/Poly and Custom EPS/Epoxy 5’6” x 18.63 x 2.31 (25.5L) Suggested Fins: Thruster: New Jordy Smith Quad: JJF Side fins with HS Quad Rears Twin + Trailer: Al Merrick Twin + Trailer in Honeycomb Construction My Height: 5’9” My Weight: 160 lb or 72.57 kg

Always a great show, question what would you recommend for intermediate /to advanced , vol range : 5'11" 155 …..Just curious...Noel ...I'm all over on volumes , I still go by grabbing rails , hold,feel..most of all thickness....I guess shapers now, are so good at hiding foam, and material used is huge, they hide it sooo well in board. Thanks Pat

Pat.... I hardly ever go by ONLY feeling rails and DIMS now. I use Liters as a tool just like dimensions and using them all combined helps me know it will float me good and offer excellent performance. For your skill level and weight I think a good liter range is 27-28.5. If you go EPS then you could technically go 26.5(L) and it will float like 27(L).

What would you classify as a beginner, intermediate and advanced surfer?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
kye chee Beginner.... just angling and little turns with some pumping down the line. Intermediate does cutbacks and uses more of the wave

Hey Noel thanks for another great review.

I just want your two cents on the Pyzalien 2 vs the NB2
Which is easier to surf and why?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Christian Bondra P2 is easier to surf. A bit more foam throughout and it’s a smoother ride. The NB2 is insane... but it pivots off that tail a bit abruptly. The NB2 is a bit more radical... which I love too

BIG SHOUTOUT TO AARRON for capturing all of the surfing radness for every review!
I have a question regarding fins: You often run a quad setup with Large neutral front/ Medium upright back fins in smaller waves and or to loosen up a board. I weigh around 195 lb. Should I go XLarge front/ Large back then? Thanks in advance!

Also been meaning to ask if you go down a fin size for larger waves and what your rationale for doing so is? I usually ride a large fin as I am 93kg and was thinking about going down to a medium fin for bigger waves. I have ridden medium fins way in the past and while they definitely lacked drive they were much easier to manoeuvre thru turns. Take it easy!

Kapukataumahaka Ōwheo - 4 years ago
@Surf n Show Reviews Got it, given my weight (93kg), perhaps I had better stay with a large fin in bigger surf.
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Kapukataumahaka Ōwheo Yes... I often go down to Medium fins when the waves get bigger. The Medium fin seems to keep my rails engaged better at high speeds. Not on all boards but most of the time I like a medium fin in 5-8’+ surf.

Hi Noel, great surfing as per usual! Can I ask, is the P2 less chunky (width, thickness combined) in the front half of the board than the Phantom? I have placed a few Phantoms under my arm and the swing weight feels/looks terrible. I have a Flash and it has more of a foiled HPSB feel, hoping the P2 is the same but would rather know the truth. Thanks!!

Murray Kernick BC has a wider tail too. It could be carting more speed due to the wider tail.

@Surf n Show Reviews I went back and watched your BunnyChow review. It seems like the Pyzalien 2 has a very different outline, softer entry rocker and deeper channels than the Bunnychow. Maybe it was the editing but the bunnychow looked faster under your feet. Anyway, thanks for the show. I'm keen to try both boards.

Murray Kernick Bunny Chow is epic too but it struggles in 1-2’ surf and tops out around 6’ surf. This Pyzalien holds its own in 1-7’+

I had the FireWire pizalien and was the same, the best board for all conditions, with the quad was ideal for powerful spots. But was nice for all conditions but not brilliant for anything, I think is a very nice choice for big guys that are intermediate, learning to turn well level.

Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
TheJDenz Cymatic does NOT go good in 1-2’ surf. In 3-8’ surf these two boards would battle... the Cymatic might be a little better in the pocket due to it being shorter but the Pyzalien 2 is way faster down the line.
