Hi Trip, I am currently looking to order 2 boards (1 everyday and 1 for better waves). I am 175cm and 70kg surfing at above intermediate level. What boards would you recommend, I am looking at the below? Look forward to hearing from you. Regards

Pyzel - The 74
5'10" - 18 7/8 - 2 5/16 - 26L

Pyzel - Pyzalien
5'7" - 18 5/8 - 2 1/8 - 25.00 L

Your welcome, stoked to help you pick the right boards. I recommend a PU/Poly 74 for more stability at high speeds and smoother ride. An Electralite Pyazlien to add speed to smaller waves is a great choice. Give us . call (252)987-6000 to place a custom order, or write REALro@REALwatersports.com and we'll get the process started.

REAL Watersports thanks so much for the great response. I am currently riding a FireWire Nano at 5,4" with 25.2l of volume? I am looking at ordering them in the Electralite tech due to me being used to the epoxy boards? Thanks guys

Hey Damian, Thanks for writing in. That's a great two board quiver for everyday to world class waves. Your sizing is spot on for high performance surfing at your weight. Just to be sure, what other boards have you been riding? Are these volumes similar to what you are used to? For the 74, the John John Medium Fins are a great choice: http://www.realwatersports.com/futures-john-john-techflex-tri-fin-set-orange-yellow-medium For the Pyzalien, go with something from the Generations series for extra speed, like these Lost Generations: http://www.realwatersports.com/futures-lost-generation-tri-fin-set-medium

also what future fin set up would you recommend for the boards you would recommend?

Can you recommend a FCS2 thruster set of fins for a 170lb surfer in NE coast beach breaks? mushy to barrels.
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey J John, The FCS II Performer PC Carbon Tri Fin Set Medium would be a great choice http://www.realwatersports.com/fcs-ii-performer-pc-carbon-tri-fin-set-teal-medium They are also available without carbon for a lower price point.

Would you recommend this board to me I'm 5ft 90 pounds ride 1-4 ft waves I'm graduating out of a 7 ft board into a 6.6 short board that has low entry and low exit rocker but I'm looking for something to use after that board the waves are long and slow, would you recommend the pyzalien in a 5.6 range
Koa3k
Koa3k - 7 years ago
You could probably get away with a 5'4 pyzalien with how much you weigh.
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Frankie, Start with using wax then if you want extra grip for airs or better hold check out the front foot pads by octopus. The Lib Tech Puddle Jumper is a better surfboard but the Stump is more affordable and really fun. Right now you'll probably enjoy both but as you advance the Puddle Jumper will be a board you want to surf more.
Frankie Proscia
Frankie Proscia - 7 years ago
Hi do you recommend the puddle jumper lib tech or the catch surf stump from what I was telling you please help
Frankie Proscia
Frankie Proscia - 7 years ago
REAL Watersports ok great I'll take a look but right now I'm gonna try a 5ft catch surf stump until I get better then I'll look at the puddle jumper or the pyzalien but thanks for the help!! Also would you recommend a front foot traction since I'm a skimboarder and snowboarder and skater I'm used to grip should I try a front foot traction??
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Frankie, That size is a good volume for your weight once you're skills are honed but you may want to spend more time on the bigger boards first. If you are really looking for performance in long/slow and small waves you may want to consider a true groveler like the Lost Puddle Jumper http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/puddle-jumper

I have the 5'3 Joe for summer waves. I'm debating between the Pyzelian or the Original Pod by CI as my DD. What are the differences? They are crazy similar even down to the name! Also which tail option is best for shoulder to HH San Diego point breaks ? What are their drawbacks?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Wef, Thanks for writing in. Although both boards are alien themed they are very different shapes. The Pyzalien packs more performance in good surf and superior maneuverability while the pod mod's wider nose and more volume provides more paddle power and small wave performance. Hope this helps - Ashlon

Nice review! I'm coming off 6'4 Dominator. Should I go with the PyzAlien or The Slab?

REAL Watersports could you help..
Pyzalien or Phantom? Whats your favourite pick? Im going to get a ghost for sure. But i would like to be sure of wich one from both, for those daily surfs. 2 to 6 ft surf..

Pyzel makes great boards, and you won't be disappointed with the Pyzalien in Firewire construction. The Stubby Bastard surfs more in the pocket with quicker turns top to bottom but the Pyzalien will carry more speed over flat sections and will work better when the surf lacks power.

REAL Watersports I came down to the decision, that I take the Pyzalien or the Stubby Bastard. The Pyzalien is the only one, which is available in a Firewire version at the moment, which means that I have to pick a normal Pyzel, if I wanna go for the Stubby. Should switch brands or should I stay with Firewire?

Edit: Infos about me - 6'2 tall, weighs 80kg, intermediate surfing level, going for WA-winter.

Cheers!

Both are great boards but entirely different shapes. The Stubby Bastard is John John's Favorite short board built in dimensions that suit the rest of us, and average waves much better than the Standard Bastard. The Sci-Fi is a channel bottomed, multi-winged surfboard of the future developed by Tomo and Kelly Slater. It has excellent grip and a unique ride while the Stubby Bastard is a tried and true really good shortboard. Cheers - Ashlon

The Pyzalien is easier to surf and works better in small waves, while the Slab is meant for bigger and more powerful surf. Coming from the Dominator you'll have a better time on the Pyzalien. Cheers - Ashlon

thank you, any advice on getting a Firewire FST board that transitions from rail to rail faster than a Pyzalien? (Banana, or Next Step)?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Jeff, Firewire will be releasing the Bastard in a new technology similar but stronger than FST later this year, they are releasing a 6'1, 6'3, and 6'6. The Bastard will work great up to Double Overhead, If you are looking just to surf Double Overhead range on this board the Next Step will be a better call but it's not as fast as the Bastard in small surf. Cheers - Ashlon

Thanks, do they make these for bigger/taller surfers? The biggest it shows is 30.1L. I want to stick with FST.

REAL Watersports hey thanks for the response, I am 6'4 195 and need 34L and up. I got a sci fi 34L and I love it, but it doesn't square off the bottom like I want it to. I think it's cause of the width of the tail and mid section, plus all channels on bottom that create speed and aren't meant for digging . I surf waves up to DOH.
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Jeff, Thanks for commenting, What wave size are you surfing this board in? The Next Step and Banana are both shaped for much larger waves than the Pyzalien, the Next Step is a semi gun, and the Banana has a ton of rocker to match steep faces like pipeline and other world class waves. For something faster rail to rail but still a high performance shortboard that works in a wide range of conditions you should check out the Pyzel FST Spartan, Amigo, and Slab. We have a 5'10 slab in stock and on sale currently or we can special order any of the boards above. http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards?surfboard_construction=328

which board is the better Allrounder? pyzalien or the Baby Buggy?

Is there much difference between the Pyzalien/the slab. the rail and tail area.
Thanks
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 8 years ago
+ronald roodhart thanks for your question. There are quite a few differences in these boards. You're getting a slight volume boost per length out of the pyzalien. The Pyzalien has a more relaxed rocker especially in the tail which is going to give the boards two different feels. The width is carried further towards the tail on the Pyzalien which gives it crazy speed, and the double-concave to vee through the tail of the Pyzalien helps you make smooth rail-to-rail transitions despite the slightly "hybrid" outline. The deck on the Pyzalien is flat and carries the foam into fairly full rails. IMO there's a little more top-end in the Slab as it has more design characteristics similar to a "performance" shortboard, however the Pyzalien does ride larger surf fairly comfortably. I feel like the trade off between these two boards is the Slab is a little more performance oriented, whereas the Pyzalien has a wider range that starts feeling fun in slightly smaller surf than the Slab. Hope this info helps! -Chris Stellato +real watersports
