SPS Mud Motor Alumacraft 1436 LT - Quick review : Jon boat to Bass boat

This is just a quick once over before I do an in depth review of the motor while its is out on the water. I was going to go more in depth but I wanted to figure out why it was leaking fuel. It was just the float that got stuck. I hope you enjoy! With the 6.5hp engine, I got 12mph. With the 13hp engine, I have got 23mph.

I have that exact motor setup but am looking for a new jon boat and I am curious if you thought that this boat (1436 in general) was a good match for that motor, I am usually using it in swampy areas that require a lot of maneuvering over and around down trees and through muck. Is this motor sufficiently powered? Thanks for the videos, I always stumble across your reviews and what not and its always helpful, been subscribed on my other google accounts since before you had 1000 subscribers!

@JTgatoring Awesome, thanks for the info! I think the 6.5 horse motor is still enough for me at this point, I really like how light it is cause I take it on and off my boats a lot. 12mph feels pretty quick when youre weaving through trees and stumps so Im fine with that!

Thank you for your support with the channel @Reid Swanson! So the 6.5hp predator was alright for this 1436. It would have been the same, if not slower, on a 1236 because the 1436 was only 10 pounds heavier and had the same footprint in the water, just a little longer. So the 1436 would carry weight better than the 1236. I would choose a 1236 over a 1032 or a 1036, and would choose a 1436 over a 1236. Once you get to 16 feet long though, the hulls get wider and these longtails like skinner hulls. Right now I have the 13hp predator engine on this 1436 boat and it scoots. I love it. It will get me through almost anything, if not everything. The 6.5 overall isn't going to cut through and torque its way out of tough situations as the 13hp can. The 6.5 is meant for light duty and a cheap propulsion system. The 13hp has enough torque to really get through some tough stuff when you need it too

Bend the rudder so that it counterreact's for the rotation of the propeller, make it stick out on the left side of the shaft....

Good video. Did you ever run it in a river with a rocky bottom. The river I fish gets low and the motor may hit of a rock now and again. Props are not expensive so that doesn’t matter don’t want to break the motor. I don’t want to by a jet outboard. Thanks.

I think you'll be happy with it. Let me know if you have anymore questions or if you remember to, let me know how the longtail kit treats you once you've played around with it!

It depends on your speed Joseph. Over-all, depending on your boat size, I think the SPS longtail mud motor would be your best bet if you're worried about rocks. If you get the boat up on plane, your chances of hitting anything with the prop decreases significantly, all most to zero percent change of hitting something that is submerged. This is because, when the boat is on plane, that prop rides in the wake behind your boat. The wake or crest of water is higher than the surrounding water line so your prop is really above the water line, but with that crest of water behind your boat, you are still propelling the boat forward. So for you to hit anything with that prop, it would have to be above the water line and you would hit it with your boat first. If you are just idling around, or you're not on plane, that is when you will break props because that shaft and prop will be down low in the water. If you are going to fast, then that wake behind the boat gets smaller and your prop sinks a little more. So the sweet spot is right when you get on plane and your boat flattens out. If you know you are going to be idling around a lot, they make a guard that may help. If you have any doubts you can call them about it but that is my take on it.

Hey JT, have you ever used the EZ mount for trolling motors?.. I have a 14 Topper, I want to know if it's worth buying one or not...

I do not have any experience with the EZ mount for trolling motors. By looks of it, it looks okay, but I haven't done any research on it.
