The HT2 is the same model that Filipe Toledo won the 2017 Hurley Pro at Trestles with slight differences according to Marcio Zouvi. With Filipe’s win at the Hurley event I was pretty excited to give this board a go at Lower Trestles.. This board was designed as a daily driver for surf in the 3-6’ range. We were lucky enough to get some swell but the waves were a bit crossed up and difficult to surf. With that being said the HT2 had its work cut out for itself but to my surprise the board felt solid under foot and had speed to burn. My surprise was not about the board design but more or less if the E2 EPS construction could handle the size, texture, and crossed up swell direction surf we had to deal with. On video the waves look really fun and they were… the HT2 felt good and the E2 construction held the rail in the water and performed well also.

Sería increíble poder traducir en Español, es el idioma nativo que mas países lo utilizan, y nadie que explica las tablas de surf lo hace.

Scott O Cheers glad you like our show. No comparison between the HT2 and Sampler. The Sampler has less over all rocker and is really a Groveler in 1-3’+ surf. The HT2 is more of a daily Driver for 2-6’ surf. Both boards are epic!

You were ripping it up on that HT2....loved the little unexpected air.
Would love one of these boards but its not build for my 96kg body. I need at least 36lts in a 6'0" or 6'2" to get me going :D
Great review Noel!

I hate wonky waves especially when there's a bunch of backwash. Looks good from the car park, then you get out and waves are fatter than you thought.

I dig your reviews. You do a great job here. I feel like this board makes you look a bit more skatey than some others you have done. Would you agree there? Or would you say that may be an acceptable side effect to what the board was aimed to do best?

Geoff Smith All is good no need to take down your comment... and I didn’t think your comment was negative at all. Just needed a little more understanding and I understand now.

This board did pivot faster compared to other models and I think it’s mostly because of Filipe Toledo’s fin. It’s a bit more upright and I noticed it too on the footage. Good eye and thanks for posting and your kind words. Cheers

Thank you for the quick reply. Maybe my terminology is not right there. I would call skatey as sort of the opposite of a board that likes to carve into turns. So maybe maybe pivoting off the fins faster than the rail can sink into the turn.

There should be a surf word dictionary somewhere to get me sorted out. I will take down the comment as to not confuse your following if you like.

Also I don’t mean to say you were not riding it well. The whole reason I watch your show is that I know you can ride these boards to their potential and translate the qualities of the equipment to us.

Geoff Smith The board feels fast and when I look at this footage I see wonk on the wave so it bounces me around a bit.

When I think of a board looking or feeling skatey I think of fast, loose, and kind of playful. (Easy to slide) a 2+1 fin set up or a Twin Fin often feels skatey to me.

Is this what you mean by skatey....?

After experiencing the js hyfi, lost carbon wrap, and sharp eye e2 constructions, what would be your order of preference? Also, is there anything you would want to modify on the custom HT2? (Was thinking you would want the rail to be @ 2 5/16, your preferred thickness)
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 6 years ago
b navarrete All the constructions you mention feel good... some have stiffer flex patterns than others but they all feel alive under foot compared to PU. A PU sure feels good on rail when the waves get a bit bigger with some texture on the surface compared to these EPS constructions. I guess they both have their pros and cons.

The DIMS on this HT2 felt good for me.... floatation, speed, paddling, and performance were solid. Most of the waves for this review were wonky but fun and this board went good in my book. Cheers

Erezdekel Erez123123 Really depends on the surf... my HPSB I like a Low to Medium entry rocker and Medium Exit rocker unless I am surfing a hollow wave. Then I need aggressive tail and Medium entry.

Small wave Performance boards I like Low entry somewhat flat in the belly, and medium exit for tight pocket surfing.

people aways talk about how you can't expect to surf better just becouse you got the same board as some pro surfer, but Toledo's board is so good for airs that Noel went airborn unintentionally.

I would be really interested to see you surf some boards from Proctor surfboards. A fun all rounder like the Monsta or a shape from Chilli like the rare bird or the nevada

Sometimes he would take a long time to shape them though. Literally waited about 5 months for one. Oh and the epoxy boards yellowed real quick in Hawaii but we're super strong.

I used to ride proctor's when I lived in Cali. They're solid boards. Todd has an amazing grasp of hydrodynamics. Boards always seem to have loads of speed. I had a monsta, all around good everyday board

appreciating the shows and all the unseen time and effort behind them! 3 things i like: 1- talking at a high level thus bringing your viewers' level up by rewording what you mean. 2- tackling all the various yin-yang trade-offs, which is of the essence, and doing so honestly. 3- an underlying framework of evaluation aimed toward solid surfing: full moves, well linked, full length of the wave (not just setting up to pounce on one big move) and how the eqpmt might or might not achieve this in different conditions.
btw, love those pesky cross swells at my closeout beach breaks :)

David Gough Stoked you like the show. Well done on picking up on the elements I like about boards too. Combinations of turns on 1 wave really show a board off. Cheers
