Most surf sups start with a single concave at the nose that leads to a double. Many noserider PRONE surfboards have big single in the nose for noseriding. Any idea why they put a double concave in the nose of this board?

Well spotted. You're are right and I don't know. Its a board that nose rides well but if it did have a subtle single concave under nose it may hold to the wave even better. Thanks for your comment. Reuben

Hey Frank , Yes they do it's part of their 'wide ride' of boards now. https://sup.star-board.com/products/wide-ride/ . These boards are quite a lot wider then the Longboard range. Don't forget the 'Wide Point' range too, really great shapes of boards if you ask me. Thanks Reuben

Hi Simon, Sounds like you are hooked on SUP now! How much flatwater paddling are you looking at doing with the board? Because when you get an All Star or touring board you wont want to paddle anything else on flatwater ( if you get what I mean?). Your a lighter rider and as you are as surfer already you could if you want too get on a smaller size SUP if you wish. The boards like the Drive are great but you many find it a little dull in the surf?? Wide Point great boards but maybe to wide for you.... going to give you lots of stability at 32'' wide. Think you're better off looking at something like this Longboard or a longer Pro shape that is 29'' wide. Or if you want to keep the width look at the Starboard Pocket Rocket 8'5'' at 30'' wide. There's loads of good boards out there that would suit you, but I think it would be better getting something with a little more performance based even for thoughs smaller SUP surfing days. As a prone surfer that got into SUP too, there's nothing worse then surfing a dull board in the surf. I use to do the same as you and surf my short board for those bigger perfect days but now it very, very rarely comes out of the van ;-) Hope that helps Reuben

i just went to Starboard 2019 SUP website, and they already have (2) versions of the board (wood and carbon). I am curious to find out what they are priced at in the USA.

Agreed. Hopefully they will release a cheaper version next year , so that it will be affordable to the masses, not just the rich willing to plop $2200 USD for a quality longboard SUP. Starboard often has had multiple constructions of their boards, allowing for various pricepoints. I will say that Starboard do make very high quality boards, I own (2) starboard windsurfers (these are both over 10years old) and a 2016 Starboard Drive SUP (10x30 145liter wood ). They hold up very very well if not abused. ~~-----Side note--~~ Too much Carbon makes the board too stiff anyhow. And remember lighter is not always better (traditional longboard surfboards are/were heavier and the glide created momentum that would carry you through weak sections). I personally have never tried a step deck, my current SUP Longboard (laird 10x28 130liters) has a domed deck (with amazing thin rails where wanted) which I love and now feels natural to my feet when supsurfing.

The weight range isn't very high as you said, i guess you didn't try the 9 foot board? After trying the 10 ft, what are your assumptions on the 9ft.

Hey Adam, No haven't tried it but thinking about getting one myself. How I feel it would work...Because the 9' is the same thickness as the 10' at 3.3'' and not thinner. The board may be OK for weights up to what Starboard say 45-85kg. But to be safe a rider with a good skill level up to 80kg would be my guess. I'm 75kg and I would have no problem using it at all. Hope that makes sense? Sorry I cant give you 100% answer on that one. Thanks Reuben

Any issues with flex or vibration ? I imagine 10 foot by 3 inches might over flex ?

You're right to think that. But it wasn't an issue at all. Flex was perfect amount and I didn't notice any less or more then other boards on the market. Board worked really well in swell up to just over head high. After that, there was a few waves were the board did get a bounce on the fastest parts of the wave. But it felt more like because of the overall size/length of the board then a flex issue. Thanks Reuben

Great review. I ride a 7’10 Hypernut and was hoping you’d cover off why you might add a longboard to the quiver. Does it open up more days or just a different style of riding for the same surf-able conditions?

Hey Rod, A bit of everything really. For me longboards are my go to boards for smaller conditions and slower waves. I would of thought, it would be a great board to go along side of your HN. Sort of the opposite in feel really. Smooth and flowing. Longboards are super good to teach you to slow down and focus on your footwork and board trimming. Surfing a longboard is one of the best ways to improve your surfing on smaller boards too. Now I have one I wouldn't want to be without one. Hope that helps Reuben / SUPboarder
