If you are looking at getting an inflatable board for use in Tropics or Sub-tropics, make sure the manufacturer is using the glue heat rated to 150 deg. Celsius. The best materials are made in Europe now using Carbon fibre, such as Starboard's Starlight Race-boards, but these will not be cheap.

For surfing, you can not beat a board with a shaped rail, these boards are ok for playing and very good for fitness training if you can not access a hard board.

I am concerned that factories are now producing many kilometers of this board material every day - and that the process is not sustainable and the product not durable. SUP in my mind, was good for bringing people closer to wetlands, waterways and oceans, but for most, the responsible producers will be too expensive.

Its not "good" in the surf. It does allow you to catch tiny waves and fool around. Inflatables do not have shaped rails that engage with the wave, so you they really teach you to ride of your fins, (or stick one end of the paddle in for grip). If there are no Carbon Boards handy, this is the one I reach for. The Inflatable Windsurfer is a blast for family holidays also.

It seems like you have never heard of the archimedes principle, you mention a couple of times that you glide over the water because it is filled with air, it will still displace like 70/80 liters of water because of you standing on it. it's just very thick and the shape might give the gliding sensation but any decent traditional board should give you the same sensation really.
