I've never done anything like that so can't say for sure. The Sun Dolphin isn't going to sink, but it does catch wind and if something happens to the motor, it's hard to paddle a long distance.

I've stored it this way for over 3 years now. I do not lean it against the wall at an angle, I stand it straight up and down, then tie something around it to hold it in place.

Does water ever get into the hull of The boat? I heard sometimes the pontoons will fill with water. How would you get the water out?

I've never had a problem with water getting in. But if it did, I'd drill a hole in the back above the water line, then stand the boat on it's end and let the water drain out. After that plug the hole.

It only weighs a little over 100 pounds. I'm in my 60s and have no problem loading it in a truck by myself.

Hey man, I don't have a car that would be able to adequately fit this inside of(2002 Dodge Durango) and putting it on top would probably put me in the hospital, what kind of trailer is that?? Thanks so much! I plan to buy sometime next year.

Yeah I'm just so brand new to boats, my dad has had one now for two years but I've never played around with it and I want to pick up a little beginner boat. Some of the lakes I want to fish are pretty big... so not sure if it'd be good to get myself one of these if I have to travel all the way to get to a good spot, at least that's how it is for one lake I'd like to fish at. Most of the good lakes here that I fish at have very small access ramps or it's against the law to use anything more than 40lb thrust trolling motors.

I've used two trailers for the boat. First I used a small 4x8' flatbed trailer. After that I picked up a used boat trailer. I installed new 2x4" carpet covered boards across the longer 2x4" boards normally used for the boat bed. It's very light weight which almost any car could tow, and getting the boat off and on is no problem.

I haven't tried it, but if a power pole can be used on a kayak, I don't know why it couldn't be used here too.

The boat is very stable. I'd feel safer standing in this then a 12" Jon boat.

Not sure how that would work. The bottom in the middle is only about 6" or 7" below the sides, so you may not gain a lot for all the work. Then again you might be able to cut a piece of plywood that would sit on the sides where the chairs slide back and forth. You could even attach a couple pieces of conduit on the bottom of the plywood so they would sit in the grooves where the chairs slide back and forth. That should give it some stability so it won't move around, and perhaps that way you wouldn't have to make it permanent. It could slide from front to back, but it couldn't slide from side to side.

The motor I've used is a Minn Kota with a 30" shaft. It's the motor Wal Mart sells for $99.

ok thank you. also, what shaft length? seems like the higher the thrust, the longer the length in stores. if i need a shorter length ill probably have to order online.

I just use a 30# thrust motor and have gotten by fine with 2 people in the boat. Of course if you want it to go faster or have to go farther distances you might want to go bigger.

This is the Sun Dolphin Sportsman which is the 8 foot model. They also have a 10 foot model that looks just like it.

I read a report about the boat he had nothing good to say about it he mentioned about the lack of oar mounts and the lack of stainless steel mounts and rubber covering what should have been stainless steel im confused now about the boat.

some rod holders you only need a c clamp and you could just c clamp them there but if you don't mind drilling holes the sides are no problem to drill and seal plus it's above the water line anyways

+jason bourne Yeah no rod holders built in. I don't do any trolling myself so hadn't thought much about that. I did add a couple holders for the rods so they didn't have to lay on the sides. I have a plastic battery box that is bigger then my battery. I added some 10" long pieces of 1 1/2" PVC to the inside of the battery box where there was space. Now I can stand up a couple rods when not using them, something like the guys in the kayaks do.

It might be a little tough getting it up on a small car. I usually put it on a small 4x6 trailer since that is easier then the back of my pickup. Though it's an extra expense, about any car should be able to pull a small trailer like that.
