The first ever proper surfboard i got was a 5,10 fish(thruster) except for smashing the middle fin box at Fairy Bower reef next to Shellys, after 2 years the boards still great, in fact i think it was a smart choice my tutor getting me a a board that exactly my matched my small Celtic body size, better than learning on a foame at the time (dw i used a foamie latter on ) best choice ever teaching myself again to surf properly on a fish(when i was a kid i was a stand up bogie boarder!) so in relation to what you said in the beginning i think fish's are the best boards or people to learn on

Great review , that tip on paddling position was really insightful. I understand why you focussed on feel but there are some features that could be highlighted so that your viewers have a better understanding of its advantages. Was really sad to read the comment that said the concave was too deep and should be avoided. We both know that it is the main reason for the great speed it generates. Also a mention of the thinned out tail would be helpful as it allows the board to bite in turns and stops that fish 'slide' that forces so many surfers into grab rail to control the board in cutbacks . Keep up the good work mate.

Nice video. How about discussing the differences between riding a quads, thrusters and twin-fins. Thrusters and twin-fins, although very different, feel intuitive to me. I've never been a quad guy and bought this board to figure out what quads are about. Apparently Machado never rode quads either and then came out with this as a quad only board. Seeing the reviews, it looked drivey and performance capable. I've only had one surf on it so far in shitty waves but I struggled to figure it out.

Some points where I'd like to hear your opinion on Quad vs Tri vs twin:

1. Speed pump (I couldn't find that initial speed burst on my pumps like i do on my tri-fin)
2. Laying it on rail (I feel like tri-fins offer a better pivot and vertical approach in the pocket and i struggled to do the turns i wanted to do, i see quads as more of an open face cutback approach, unless you're riding quads for a barrel like Teahupoo)
3. Speed/drive (other fish style quad/twin boards I've ridden would increase in speed when cutting back towards the white water, i haven't felt that in this board YET.

As I said, I've only had one surf on this board in very shitty conditions so I'm still going into it with an open mind, but I definitely noticed some big differences and my initial impression was that its not as user friendly as i had imagined.
I had to change my approach a lot, more like a twin fin. Use a lot of compression in your core to get the board up and down the wave face. And use your hips and knees to kind of send the board out in front of you. This helped me with my railwork and turns. Also, it seems better to stay near the top of the wave. Don't drop down to the bottom of the wave until you see a section you want to perform a maneuver on. Definitely had a few moments of flare so I'm looking forward to my next session. Would love to hear your thoughts.

More simply what are the differences in body mechanics and approach required for the best performance out of 2, 3, 4 fin boards. And maybe even single.
I know you did a twin fin video a while back but it would be cool to cover them all and get detailed about the differences in the way they perform and the way we should use our body.

I’m wondering why you didn’t talk about concaves...? This board has super exaggerated double concave and my local shop the first thing everyone says about this board is be careful with that one it have super deep concave and is hard to figure out..

I guess so, but honestly that means nothing to me. I just think about how it feels in the water, and like I said, it feels great in those small / weak waves. I wouldn't be put off!

I've been riding the seaside since August and after getting used to riding a shorter board I'm having some amazing sessions. Looking forward to seeing what people make of Seaside and Beyond which could be a great option for slower/less powerful days :)

Great review. It really does look like it carries you through some tough sections. I was a little worried being 6'0, but I guess being 5'8 isn't too far off of it. Is it available in different sizes? Love that it's a quad setup compared to the Go fish. Looking forward to the comparison review of that. Cheers!
