I was lucky to surf an original red beauty with OP laminate not sure if it was Tom's but in crumbly blown out 1-2' beach break it killed! Had softer rails than the one you are reviewing and it was poly, One of the best boards i ever surfed

Does any one know the amount of liters on the stock 6'4"?

Great review. Finally someone who pointed out the good and bad aspects of the board instead of saying it's great blah, blah, blah...Showing videos of you riding it is a plus.

Just came across this great review thanks so much great review. I get the impression it's more of a specialty board and not a one board quiver for SoCal (under head high)?

+dexterpolyester Hey there! Yes, it is a bit of a specialty board for the connoisseur but I know a few people who love theirs and Craig really enjoyed riding it. But you're right, probably not the best option for a one board quiver in SoCal (or anywhere)

looks similar to my Roberts "Modern 80s"...expect mine has deep single concave throughout. Same hippy tail though. The hips do something to make the board turn very flicky. Tried it with upright fins and it was almost too much pivot...prefers raked fins to draw bigger arcs. Agree that this type shape doesn't grovel well.

I had a guy tell me this would not be good for smaller waves like Corpus Christi? Im new to surfing so not sure what to believe yet, but was just wondering how it would do with small waves,, also what would be a good size for a guy like me i weigh 165lbs. he was telling me to get a pod mod. 6'0 with large fins but i hear large fins are for people who weigh 180lbs or more, and that on a pod mod i should ride 3-6 inches shorter then me and im 5'11. really liked the review and would love some feedback and knowledge. thanks! also if i got a red beauty what size should i get?

If i was you, I'd get a mini simmons. it's great in most conditions and easy to catch waves on.

looks reminiscent of my first ever board, the OG CI Flyer, with the hip tail and beak nose - digged the review, cheers.

Good, insightful review, Craig. And, you're surfing good on that board, amigo. Here's to ditching the leash when conditions & safety allow. I almost always surf better without one.

Hey Reza, when it's small, Craig usually surfs without a leash.  I don't do it often - I end up chasing my board after most waves! - but better surfers seem to manage just fine as they're better at controlling how and when they pop off a wave

Why don't you use a leash?

The outline looks like a lost driver or buggy

@Des.Farrell Interesting comparison Des - the plan shape does look a lot like a Lost Driver! Although the pronounced hip, vee bottom and long effective edge make the design pretty unique
