If you want a lite air kite board get em in SURFBOARD CONSTRUCTION (FST?) I have a 6' 2" Dominator bought used in 2010 at a surfshop that is my bigwave surfboard/lit air kiteboard. I do jump it and never had any surf/kite related repairs on it. A buddy just got a surf layup 5' 8" Vader used from a surf shop, strictly for kiting after I sent him this video. It is awesome! Rode it for 5 minutes the other day in lit, onshore conditions after wore out from a 2-3 hour sesh. Puts my Dominator to shame. He has also ordered one of the pads mentioned here. Highly recommend the Vader for anyone who rides strapless

I have the vanguard love it but with the extra glass it is too heavy. Hope the boards can be lightened however keep the strength needed to kite.

Hey Genki, the extra weight is the thicker glassing in the kite specific construction. Firewire also makes some boards in standard FST which is lighter weight but more susceptible to breaking than the Kite FST construction.

for a beginner to strapless, what you suggest? vader or vanguard?

These are all excellent boards, and one is not necessarily "better" than the others, just different. The Tomo designs are all easy to ride, but the evo has more curve in the outline which makes it more forgiving and easy to ride as a beginner.

Hey Ermis, thanks for writing in! Both can be ridden by a beginner. The Vanguard cuts through chop better and is more stable at speed, this will help you feel more connected to the water. While the Vader is easier to turn, and feels more playful. Another board to consider is a new one from TOMO/Firewire called the Evo.
