Nice one guys,I was gonna buy one to run on the local water reservoir but it's not the kind of place you'd want to go swimming in alone should the boat malfunction or should the worst happen,I understand you need a recovery boat or some other kind of watercraft,something worth adding into the cost as these things are expensive to begin with.

I don't know about the first gen Spartans. But I can tell you I bought a Spartan about three months ago and I've driven it close to every day sometimes twice a day and it has been 100% perfect. It's fast, handles great, and very reliable. I've driven it in flat, choppy, and out rageous choppy water and it has been perfect. The motor and esc are only warm after a full throttle run on 6s. By far one of the funnest rc products I've ever owned in my life. The build quality is top notch, no rust and I drive it in fresh, brackish and straight ocean on the beach. No rust issues. I love this thing. I'm sure the other boats are great and I had a pro boat shockwave 26 which was very nice. But the Spartan has been an absolute blast

I'm not being a hater, I loved my traxxas Spartan but the first time I ran it on 6s, the ESC caught fire and started smoking and burnt basically everything. I still need to send it to traxxas :/

The heating problems are true tho guys the first gen was prone to catch fire I saw it first hand and my buddy has a 2nd gen that burned the battery tray on the left side every boat has pros and cons but for the price there are much better boats my buddy paid about six bills with the boat and the 6s battery packs I have a blue mania that does 40mph for little over 200$

I have a boat like this and it is my first boat and I think it great, it runs well and considering how fast it goes its pretty stable in the water. Like they say no problems with coling and I run it on 3-cell 5000 mah lipo batteries and I have had no problems what so ever. Great boat and great vid

Well done. I aswell bought this boat after seeing a friends and love it. He had heating issues but a burnt unit he has upgraded to dual feed lines and a new hull has had no problems. Except his buddy (me) who crashed in to him and put a huge hole in side of his craft he wasn't to happy has since named it Christine lol. But no problems with my stock boat. But after you review I will be investing in that spliter. And have been running the 5000 lipos. Verry happy. And did have to buy swim trunks cuz im an idiot and like playing with it after a fue beverages. Thanks again...would like to see something on the summit need a tow rig.

@TheSn8kbyt yea my super surge crusher twin hull is running a stock prop too and gets tourqe roll, I didn't want a smaller prop so I added about 3 ounces of lead weights to the left hull to try stop it. don't know if it will work the same in a mono hull tho. do you have trim tabs?

If I pay 400 dollars for something it had better work like it's supposed to out of the fucking box. It's called "goods and services" Do you check the lugnuts on your car when you get home after getting your tires rotated? No you don't because you shouldn't have to do that that's why you payed somebody to do it for you.

No joke, $380?! Maybe back when but not anymore. $425 at least for the rtr with NIMH batteries and around $525 with Lipos. I wish traxxas would make a budget version (brushed) for $250-$300. I know it would never be as fast as this model but still could be fun. Also wish Traxxas would kake a min Spartan, about 12"-15", with a brushed 380 or the mini vxl system from the 1/16 cars. That thing would be awesome for a pool or small pond!

not sure I like the idea of the splitter for the water. It seems that reduces water flow to both parts. As you said, the motor needs it more than the ESC does. Why not just route the water over the motor first then over the ESC? should be safe.

My Spartan runs on 4s lipo and it doesn't get uncomfortably hot. A little bit of heat but it doesn't hurt it. You might have had a different experience like the hole on yours is small. I'm not saying you got it wrong.

To bad I can't go again today. But I at least got the opportunity to go and talk to the people behind the scenes. Still, to get back to the spartan, compared in costs to the nitro boats that where all built up from hull to racer. The spartan costs half the amount of money with 2 3s lipos included to the price. I think you get great vallue. I mean, tue nitro boats cost as much as 1300 euros while the spartan 'only' costs 650 euros. With that comes the maintainance of nitro engines, feul.

Yesterday I was at some rc weekend. And one of my friends was there as well (he told me about that rc weekend). He was racing his boat there together with some other people. He has a nitro boat that does about 60 m/h, and his friends all had nitro boats that did the same or faster. (some flipped their boat) But to see the spartan bitween those boats was real fun to see it fight against the nitro monsters,

Any boat can be ran in salwater. You just need to clean it wash it out with fresh water afterwards and make sure not 1 drop gets inside.

Pretty lame that they gave it a Plastic Hull! Seriously, it costs around $450 and its not fiberglass! And alot of people have problems with the electronics as well. If you want something fast and dependable, go with a Aquacraft SuperVee.

Sorry Guys, The split trick DOES NOT WORK. It runs hotter that way. More warm water volume is better than half the cold water volume when splitting it. Ive done both.

he price they ask for it .it should be fiber glass hull ,so you can race it , if a pursuit hit that at speed i know what boat would come off second best , once that hull opens up ,from another boats turn fin or rudder its in bin ,and your looking at a replacement hull ,, not a quick repair like glass hulls cheaply build hull blown ABS must cost traxxas around 30 dollars to have made ,maximum profit . impressive to watch in the water i give it that ,

I'm really happy with my Traxxas Spartan. I have the newer style hull, which is more stable in the water. I think the newer version has better esc and motor cooling. Mine runs fine on 6s LiPo.

@shakenbakejake100 That's a velineon 540 xl motor. It's the same proportions as the velineon 380 motor in terms of its length versus it's diameter. I thought it was too, then just wondered how come it could handle 6s and go 50 with so much friction.

yes,i am sure when its setup correctly 50 mph + can be achieved,as i own a supervee which is shorter and can only handle 4 cells with stock electronics and they do 40mph + when set up correctly on flat water...It all about tweaking and not becoming airborn and flipping

oh i forgot. i dont know if i would call the prop being run through the rudder so they turn left or right as one as you say is sometimes used on cheaper boats lower performance in anyway some military ships and even aircraft have a similar setup but its called thrust vectoring. yes i realize their not quite the same thing and for a high speed boat you a boat might not want that but when you can turn the prop left and right you have thrust vectoring

two things, i agree with wht you say about how fast the boat is and the slash 4x4 is i have the slash 4x4 ultimate and with the 18 tooth pinon and 11.1v it does around 50 maybe 55 and traxxas says if you change it to a 19 tooth with 11.1v it will 60+ it just requires a little tuning same with the spartan. but the thing with your comment about a cars mpg, i know what your saying, that it depends on conditions but also how you drive. ive gotten a v8 powered car to get 30+ mpg.

what do you mean when you say brushless motors have a break-in? I know about the brushed and nitro break-in but i never heard about brushless break-in. I don't do any sort of break in in all of my cars and they work just fine.

Hey, I know that you put your own money into it but could you review either the villian or the blast? I have a huge pond (almost a lake) behind my house. I would love to get a boat but its just kind of to have one and the street gets busy but the water inst ever crowded with cars. If possible with the blast maybe motor upgrade or something. I know that I am probably not the only one who wants a boat but doesnt want to spend almost $400 on it. Thanks so much and always good reviews.
