I have a friend in desperate need of help he has a modem sb 6190 it is connected to his computer. I'm assuming for his internet access (comcast is provider) he wants to save on the rental. Now he just purchased a LG smart tv and would like to access Netflex and other apps can this sb6190 also work for the Tv? He purchased a spliter for ethernet connection?

Probably want to purchase a network router then you can have the TV connect to the router. The router connects to the modem. If modem connects to computer, it's limited to 1 connection.

This modem has a notorious reputation for latency issues with the Intel chipset. Can you tell me what ISP you're using now and how it's holding up?

Not sure what you asking? Are you talking who you call once you buy this equipment? You call your internet provider to activate this new modem with the MAC info.

anyone have any experience with this modem in combination with the netgear nighthawk X6 tri band router? I just bought this modem, and tomorrow I'm gonna call my cable company to have I activated but I'm also going to go buy the Netgear nighthawk X6 to go with it because all I have now is a cheap $60 router with the original Motorola modem that came from the cable company 10 years ago....

Do you have the 1gb download speeds? If so how is this modem with the nighthawk router? I have the X6 as well and was thinking of getting this or the motorola mb8600

i have this modem paired with a d-link ac1900 router and i haven't had any problems so far. only problem is when i am surfing during peak hours, because cable internet is being shared by a lot of people, there is a slowdown of speed. otherwise, i am happy with this modem. when comcast brings the price down for the gigabit internet here in our place, i might upgrade to the new sb8200.

I received my SB6190 yesterday. I got it online and did some basic upload/down load testing. Compared to my Linksys CM3008, the SB6190 comes up slower (connected to Comcast Internet Service Provider.

I am returning the SB6190 and keeping the old Linksys CM3008.

You can do that also. I rather have my own modem not to pay the rental fees. The malware protection piece on the ASUS is what made me chose it over the Netgear Nighthawk.

Any modem is better than comcast. After a year of paying into the comcast modem you could have bought and owned your own.

Is this also a wireless router? i am with comcast and just cancelled my cable tv and phone but kept my wifi internet and i want to purchase my own to cut the rental fee and to have a better device.

Definitely setup the network first with modem, wifi then Magic Jack.

I just bought this SB6190 to save the 10.00 per/mo but also will get rid of the Comcast phone service too so bought a Magic Jack. I have an iMac and also an AirPort Extreme wireless router. I'm going to port my long time landline number to the MJ which may take a day or two, then hoping to swap this 6190 out for the existing Comcast modem. I'm thinking I should get the Magic Jack going first and make sure the number transfer is successful, then connect the new 6190 and call my provider to have it provisioned with the correct Mac address. Any feedback on the correct order to do this would be greatly appreciated:)

Yes, the SBG6900-AC is a wireless router also. With the Arris Surfboard SB6190 cable modem, I would suggest ASUS (RT-AC68U) for the wireless router. Unless you need the speed a longer range that would probably do in most cases. I have Comcast also and use my own equipment, also to avoid those monthly rental fees.

Nope.. it's just the modem. If you want the wifi router with modem.. it's SBG6900-AC. IMO, you can probably get a way better wifi router than the one with the modem.
