We had it five years and it saw many adventures. I sold it to a guy who took it down to Baja Pennisula and it is still there today, running happily and serving his family well. Almost 20 years later the Futura has come back to the Nutnfancy family. This boat is lightweight, tough, rides chop better than any other 100% inflatable boat, looks cool, and is rare. Have YOU ever seen one in person? Probably not. Coupled with the torque Evinrude ETEC 30hp motor, the combo promises to be a pretty good adventure boat. Here we take a short look at the combination and draw conclusions on both motor and boat. The ETEC 2 stroke appears to be a fabulous motor, an environmentally clean high tech 2 stroke. It’s fuel efficient, runs quie as a four stroke, looks great, and is high quality. Max speeds are GPS observed here. Venue is Bear Lake, ID on a fabulous summer day with Allie the mountain dog.

dude I Love Your Boat and Motor combination those motors do Kick-Ass they're amazing one quick question I'm not sure you have it trimmed properly it looks like the motor could be dropped down a notch or two you'd be surprised what it'll do for your speed but I'm not there so you may have it trimmed correctly nice boat

Hi I bought an ex military Zodiac mk2 Grand raid and I am trying to decide whether to put a 25 hp (and register the boat) or a small 5.5 hp engine and leave it unregistered.  purposes are for fishing around Sydney harbour.  NSW Australia .  Before I saw this video I had been told that 25 hp is too much weight for the zodiac if I was in it by myself.

Thought about one of these for fishing, decided on an aluminum boat instead. Had trouble with the thought of popping a rib. Want a yamaha or honda for it. I'm not an evinrude/johnson fan. And no merc since they're all tohatsu. Your engine is the right shaft length though looking at motor depth at plane.

If all you're going to do is trailer it, why not get a rigid hull? Glass or aluminum, it would still be cheaper than an inflatable, ride better, faster, and much lower maintenance.

I love small fun quick boats too but could never get past the price tag of a Zodiac. As awesome as they are they're still an inflatable PVC rig, as a fisherman just too many sharp objects around to ruin your day. For the price I'd rather get a nice kayak or used 13' whaler, etc. But they are awesome as a run about or tender/bail out boat.

The motor still leaves oil in the water but it leaves it as a complex carbon soot that sinks in the water so you dont see the slick. Mercury motors are also great motors. The waste oil thing is unavoidable.

The do make a hydrofoil wing that will allow you to stay more level at slower speeds. I had a 16 foot aluminum flat bottom boat with an 8hp motor and the previous owner said I couldn't use it solo because it would nose up at all speeds. With a hydrofoil it would plane out at any speed by myself and allow me to take it in even shallower water than it could previously handle.

Man that thing is loud! I'm used to 4 stroke Yamaha's since I work with them. As far as the steering friction thing, there should be a nut where the lever pivots that you can tighten up to add some friction.
With the lower unit siting too low, you will loose a lot of speed. My 14' aluminum with a 4 stroke 15hp yamaha runs 24mph on my garmin GPS. With a shorter shaft, I'll bet you'd pick up 5mph. The cavitation plate above the prop should be close to being flush with the bottom of the hull.

I wish I had the money for a zodiac. I ended up going with a Saturn sd330w with the max rated 15hp outboard. Great build quality, but it's slow as Christmas. Gets me out on the water though, so it's not all bad. Speed tubes and aluminum deck are the two biggest features I wish it had.

Where is the kill switch tether location on that Evinrude? While I'm not anywhere near a Safety Sally, on a boat that small, it doesn't take much to have a bad accident, even with a guy your size. The Circle of Death is no joke, and no one wants a Spiral Cut Nutn ham.

In my opinion, 4 stroke has come a long way, but still requires almost twice as many cc's to make the same power, the power still doesn't come on as quick as a 2 stroke, are lot more complicated, usually more expensive, and require a lot more maintenance! For me, 2 stroke is still the way to go!

Hey Nutn, i don't know if they make them for a boat that big but here in Aus we use a fibreglass hard floor for our IRB's (Inflatable Rescue Boats), those hulls i find have the perfect combo of stiffness for stability and flexibility, its only segmented at the bow so it allows flex and we run them in the surf all day. Maybe you should check that option out because i've heard the metal floors flex a lot

Why would you want this over a Jon boat for the same price? I worry if a fishing hook or knife would puncture the plastic and have a air leak. Or if someone were to shoot it (I know; highly unrealistic), then it would pop. Right?
p51mustang24
p51mustang24 - 7 years ago
It's some seriously tough material, see it in person and you will be suprised. I believe the inflated tubes are usually segmented as well, so a single puncture will not sink you.
TheBCSledder
TheBCSledder - 7 years ago
Yeah, inflated boats make me nervous, although keep in mind the materials used are almost always tougher than they look.

Great video! Could you please do a bit more detail on the trailer set up? Do you carry gear in the boat while towing? Looks like an awesome set up, is that powerful/fast enough to waterski behind?

Where's the Owl sticker for the E-Tec???? Lol!! Thanks for doing the time for these Vids!! Avid boater turned TMPer!!! Still rocking the 500a as the first I'm building up my Gun-Safe Gun! Treating it like a rented mule!!! My friends and family shoot skeet and I rock it scattering clay like a boss!!! Hand it to them... Humor follows!!! Lol!! 18 1/2 barreled full tube and they can kinda hit the East side of a barn!! They all argue about who's next to shoot my little ole $176 out the door gun!!! Lol!! Anyone can grab a Clay-Gun and Rock The range like AC/DC .... But few can master the fine tuned full capacity Boss-Moss!! Lol!!! Keep it up NutN!! My middle little brother just scooped a RBD after me telling him to watch your review!!! Keep Cheaping It Real Brother!!! 42!!!!!

I have never owned a tiller steer boat. Can you not adjust the trim while you are underway?
Corey McConville
Corey McConville - 7 years ago
my grandpa has an electric trim on his 40hp johnson so they do exist i've even seen a 115 hp e-tec tiller steer with one
lordaleksandre
lordaleksandre - 7 years ago
I've not seen electric trim, even on big (60hp+) tiller steers, but I'm sure it exists. I'd be surprised to find it on 30 and under.
Corey McConville
Corey McConville - 7 years ago
yes some you can adjust while moving others you have to manually adjust while stopped usually lower hp ones have manual trims like 25 hp and 15
lordaleksandre
lordaleksandre - 7 years ago
Not really, you have two trim adjustments. One that you adjust roughly based on the hull design you're mounted on, and one that you set at idle based on the water conditions. Generally the compromise is acceptable with small boats, because the ideal hole shot trim and the smooth water high speed planing trim are close enough together. And of course, rough water affects small boats more greatly.

Hey Nutn, thanks for the vid. Why did you decide to go with an inflatable boat vs. a hard body?
dubgrug89
dubgrug89 - 7 years ago
nevermind, commented before it was over. I disagree on price though, you can get used boats really cheap. But you're in that there is less stuff to break.

What is wrong with you ? Why have a nice unit like that and not FISH. It's like having a Sig, Glock or Ruger, and others. And then not shooting them. Hope the next time we see that rig, that someone is fishing. Have a good one.
