You should establish residency in Northern AZ Next time. No SMog test required and you can take it back to California where you are staying. You are technically tourists so it should be completely legal.

Loved the short time lapse right before you went under the bridge, went with the music perfect. 29 is a good age. Thank you.

All the "smog" in Cali is from Asia, all the crap you have to deal with in Cali is all about money, not about the 'climate"

Sun up nicer that a sundown? Made me think of a poem of A.E Houseman. For all the procrastinators out there, me included :-) :

How clear, how lovely bright,
How beautiful to sight
Those beams of morning play;
How heaven laughs out with glee
Where, like a bird set free,
Up from the eastern sea
Soars the delightful day.

To-day I shall be strong,
No more shall yield to wrong,
Shall squander life no more;
Days lost, I know not how,
I shall retrieve them now;
Now I shall keep the vow
I never kept before.

Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.

Ok, you made cruising in Alaska look so amazing--but you told Bair Island friend not to go north? What's your overall take on cruising Alaska? Also, what about timeline north to south? Would July and August, Alaska to Northern Ca be rushed, leisurely, or something in between?

Another great example of how Not To See California......by tired old van! The costs to keep a vehicle "smog free" is just plain stupid! I would bet that after spending all of those $, it doesn't run any better(probably worse) and the mileage got worse! My home state just costs way too much to live in but the weather is just so darn good, we residents put up with it!Sad, so sad. Looking forward to your southerly meanderings. BTW, what have you decided to do with The Beast?

Welcome to my home port of Santa Cruz guys! I was sad to learn the video's were running a few months behind your actual travels. I'd have loved to have shown you some of our wonderful local treasures. I loved the beast. I owned that exact model and color Econoline when I left San Diego after college and moved up here to work in Silicon Valley. Great memories were made in that van. Looking forward to the rest of your adventure. Cheers!

I can't wait to see the Santa Cruz video. I believe I may have been working in a hotel on the other side of the wharf when you departed after a storm. I watched all morning as the boat rocked and rolled till it left the anchorage. I said "that looks like a force 50, I wonder if it's zero?"
