Does a deck box need to be bolted through the deck with backing plates? Did you consider placing it athwart ship before the mast? Nice work! Best wishes, B.

The box looks great--put a cover on it or else, in a short time, every time you see it, it will scream at you, "I need varnish and I look like hell!" Ok, that aside, how did you get from Hawaii to Kodiak to Vancouver to Seattle in one summer? Did you feel like you were in a rush? Ok, I have to say, once again, your boat moves well. One more question: have you thought of getting a composting head?

I remember that day well. On the dingy ride out to my friends boat in the mooring field, a wave broke over the bow and I got drenched. My hat is off to your carpenter skills, great work!! Breakfast in Julian....... good call!!! That difference in the water you saw is from the storm water draining into the bay. Those storm pipes were mostly dry for many months then the rain comes, washes the oil from the streets into those pipes and takes it straight to the bay. Apparently there was some other problem associated with it, because the day I was down there I noticed a Harbor Patrol boat with several people on it checking out the drain that is just west of the pump out station at the mooring field.

San Diego... the place where it never rains! But, when it does, you get one years worth in a few days. Spent my university days in San Diego. It was a hard place to leave. BTW, did you find the Julian juice factory? It's a legendary place up there.

I grew up in San Diego. Usually there is only a light to moderate breeze - easy sailing. Blows like that are pretty rare. And being costal desert, that much rain at once only happens a few times a year. Thank you El Nino!!
