Can you please show the asking prices.
Otherwise your will loose subscribers.
To much suspense?

I'd seen the Bavaria 390 but i now realize why there were no deck photos. was the deck screwed down or bonded? If screwed that's at least 8000 to fix and with the price their asking way over valued.

I know what you are going through, I've been looking for almost two years now. I did a great deal on a hurricane Harvey damaged Beneteau 440 but couldn't finish the deal because there weren't any boatyards available. Because of all the hurricane damaged boats needing repair, the waiting list was over a year long. I go through the same thoughts as you do, proven old seaworthy boat or a newer boat with the more modern touches. Trouble with the old ones if they are in great shape they want an arm & a leg for them and they have to be updated in the electronics which is very expensive. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm guess I will keep looking, the right one is out there waiting for me to find her.

You are stealing my life! I just looked at a Bavaria 38 and a Moody 376 so this was very deja-vu like - and it threw rain down as well. In the end we settled on a Bavaria 36 so please do not buy one of those or I will have no content left to upload :-)

Looking forward to your next episode

Which sailboats make would you classify as the "plastic boats in the Mediterranian"? Looking for your advice as we are also shopping.
Alex Gray
Alex Gray - 6 years ago
Actually, my goal is to sail the Mediterranian from September to May, perhaps not sailing January - February. The idea is to sail when everyone is not sailing so I am looking for a blue water sailboat sailable shorthanded in almost all weather. A high-latitude sailboat, like a Garcia, would be an overkill just like a summer charter without a heater of gen-set would not be a good idea.

oh and size isn't everything when it comes to boats :-)

Alex, Its a very general term used to describe some of the boats you have mentioned vs some of the more traditional built and often older boats. There is an argument that modern charter boats are built for more accommodation inside and better places to put your G&T rather than hard out sailing. Having said that many of them have undertaken ocean crossings so its fair to say that mostly it is the capability of the crew rather than the boat!

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure what to do with your advice since there are many 50' or larger sailboat brands which are used for charters, Beneteau, Dufour, Hanse, Bavaria to name the most known. I would not call any boat 2000 or newer, 50' or larger "plastic" but ... I don't benefit from a great deal of experience, which is why I am asking. Anyway, best of luck with your search!

Hi Alex , Thanks for getting in touch. people normally classify a holiday boat such as plastic. The charter type boats. We wish you all the best on your search and web are sure you will find the one that is for you. No-one can really say what you should buy. Just go with your gut x

We have just got back from Falmouth looking at the Southerly Gav spoke to you about.
On three occasions of watching this video, we looked at each other and laughed because you both said the exact things we said yesterday.
Another great video! Ours will be out next week.

Hi "parejita". Do you know the saying: a boat are big problems, big boat are huge problems? ... from my own experience (I own a 30 feet, I almost live permanently in her, I sail alone or as a couple, when I have it, and I have there is enough for the Mediterranean and for having crossed 4 times "the puddle"), and with your characteristics (you are two and occasionally 3 or 4) a boat no bigger than 35 feet would be perfect ... you know, no big problems. Anyway... NO teak deck, or at least no bolted teak desk (ask Mads - Sail Life Channel). Good luck in your search.
Sailing Creo
Sailing Creo - 6 years ago
Hi Gambucero .The boat size is important for Matt , Charlie and i . We also will be having others stay on board so its important we have a nice amount of space.Yes the bigger the boat the more problems. The boats we are looking at are under 40ft. We felt the last Creo boat size worked well for us. x

This is a proper solid ocean going cruising boat. Tradewind 35 at a great price in UK. https://www.boatshed.com/tradewind_35-boat-237431.html. Hydrovane, long keel which will challenge you and beautiful build.

Said it on the first video. If you think the Warrior is a great boat and built well I urge you to speak to Mads in Denmark. His channel Sail Life will show you what he is having to put right on his Warrior 38. Wet deck core, that is under the teak and top layer of glass. Wet hull, needs osmosis treatment. All manner of other issues. Seems like you want a proper blue water boat which is great but you need to start looking at other designs. Plenty of very cheap boats in UK, people wanting to sell, it is a buyers market I would say. Good luck.

Love your channel. Perhaps I’ve missed it in a previous episode. I thought you sold Creo as you wanted to spend more time with your son. But now you’re looking for another Creo. I fully understand if the reason is personal, but if it was about Creo (distance, size/cost, etc), I’d sure like to know which may help me in my search.

Hi John , This winter we have looked into ways of making it work. We loved Creo and were shocked how quickly she sold. We need to get back to the water. The search for a new boat is now on.Thanks for watching x
