So very very beautiful, natures silken tapestry of turquoise sea, verdant foliage, purple horizons, all wrapped around young innocent hearts and minds. a polar opposite of Grey Britain, which seems to be a duffel coat of cold and grey, wrapped around suspicious and insular souls who offer no warm welcome to visitors from other shores.
I love the cinematography and the respect that you show when you film, I look forward to the next 12 years of #followtheboat

It is really great that you are now posting GPS coord's along with these vid's, this is actually preferable imho since video is more than likely delayed from your current actual location .. but I am curious why your MMSI/AIS last reported position is so old and almost a month ago. Received: 2018-01-23 06:26 UTC (AIS Source: Self Report)

Sorry for my non-sailor ignorance, but does it cost money to report position or something? Also makes me curious when you were sailing through heavy singapore shipping lanes where they asked if you had your AIS on .. would they not have seen it and so should not have asked. Or was it just simply due to so many and such busy spot just did not see yours amongst all the clutter.

We didn't snorkel in the area, but the coral next to the villages is never good. Elsewhere in the Anambas we found some really healthy reefs (see earlier episodes for great underwater shots). Thanks for commenting! Liz

Thanks for sharing. I found your channel the other day and really enjoy it. And while I won't thrash some of the other vapid sailing "adventures" by name, I appreciate great content and not eye candy.

I'm curious about the "first sailboat ever to come here" part of the title. Obviously from the scooter, and machine made clothes and modern windows and tin roofs, these folks interact a lot with the "outside world". Did the residents tell you that your boat was the first cruiser to stop there?

I suspect there are other hamlets and villages which don't get any visitors. Anyone who sails to the Anambas makes straight to the better known beauty hot spots (i.e maybe one other boat there). They're lovely too, but we like to see people as much as unspoilt nature, so it wasn't difficult to find this place with the help of Google. I still can't believe what a welcome we got, though. Unprecedented. Liz

Yes, the subject came up in conversation with Sen the schoolteacher, Bajar's Dad. He told us no sailboat had anchored in front of their village before, and no-one had visited them either. The Anambas is not cut off from the rest of the world, and they get plenty of supplies from Jakarta and the rest of Indonesia. While there have been visitors to the group, you wouldn't stumble across Air Putih. It's at the end of a long strait going nowhere. We only found it by looking on Google Earth. We love visiting communities and liked the look of the shelter offered by their bay. Pure serendipity! Liz

Wow, what an amazing video. Beautifully done. The kids excited about their school ~ such a rare thing. The craftsmanship of the boat they were building was awesome, except the waterproofing may not be that effective. I noticed later on a couple of men were scooping water out of their boats with small containers. I wonder where "Wayne Rooney" got his shirt? I noticed another boy with a Barcelona FC shirt. Let's hope civilization never finds these people to spoil their idyllic lifestyle.

Millie sends a blink (cat for "I'm smiling"!). There were some girls in the gang, but they were shy in front of the camera. They whispered questions to me behind their hands, and ran off laughing! Hey guys, I thought it time to comment on the many peaceful videos you have brought to YouTube. Usually after watching I enjoy reading the comments by others for a couple of reasons; one you often respectfully engage with the viewers, the comments are usually on track with the presentation, and, I can usually align with the crowds comments and questions kind of like, having a coffee with like minded on a warm beach (ok maybe a beer)!
But this time Robert Evans and z non you broke from the beach party with your immature comments on La Vag. La Vag put together a solid business plan, they were never disrespectful along the way, young, hopeful to the point of being dreamers, all true.
Sell outs- How?
Sail FTB and La Vag together for 1 week, 2 calm loving Couples both community oriented channels in 1 lagoon- imagine the "generation filled" gap that video vlog would have to share with all of us...

I'm sure we would get on very well with Riley and Elayna, we have so much in common, not least a love of sailing and travelling. If we're ever in the same waters, we'll be sure and hook up with them!
We have an educated and erudite crowd of followers for which we are very grateful, and we love reading and answering comments. Sometimes we all have to vent, though, and we don't mind if people want to do that here - we leave our comments open to every point of view (except racism, sexism - the usuals).

I vote that this episode is the all-time best to date. It was amusing that most of the children had new matching outfits and it was impressive that they were well behaved. The leadership of this village must be educated because the houses in the village were nice, they valued education, it had excellent infrastructure and I didn't see any destitute poor. It's interesting how a people can be so remote and yet so well off.

I envy you folks finding the out of the way places to explore. These are the kinds of places I would go to. I have a question that is a little off topic but it concerns a video you released in 2012. (I know, who remembers what they did yesterday, let alone six years ago). You folks did a introductory review on a port-a-boat and you seemed pretty taken by it. But, my wife and I notice you aren't using it anymore. Could/would you please share with us your impressions regarding its durability, etc? We are thinking of purchasing the 10'er to use as a dingy but way to hear back from as many people as we can before spending that kind of money. Thanks.

It wouldn't take the larger motor (yours is fine) and, as I said above, we wanted to move fast around this area in the dinghy to go exploring and snorkeling - often in bigger waves which the Portabote didn't like. Cheers. (Liz@ftb)

I've got a Mercury 4.5 HP engine that I was planning on using. After the boat got damaged I take it that for the reasons you mention, it wasn't worthwhile replacing the damaged one with another Port-a-bote?

Its a good boat, and we replaced it with the inflatable because it got damaged when we were hit in Thailand. To be honest, we wanted a more powerful motor so that we could get to shore quickly - over here you are often anchored way out. It's also not great in rough seas, and can be a very wet ride! But it's indestructible! (Liz@ftb)

Am I accurate in my observation that you don't see a lot of young girls in your exploration? There are frequently large groups of boys that come greet you on the beach, men working on machines or fishing, and women around the houses, but it's rare there are girls to talk to. I wonder what's happening there.

Absolutely love this video, and to see how happy, relaxed and welcoming everyone there is. It really shows that there are so many advantages to the simple life. It also makes me want to hurry up, cut the dock lines, and get out there!!

Robert Evans I concur followtheboat is one of the best produced sailing vlogs out there. Actually forget sailing it's one of the best vlogs out there. I can't stand la vaga, I respect their original voyage but they sold out. You can't blame them, they are just trying to find their place. It's a shame Google promotes the young half naked girl over the experienced liveaboard when you search for sailing videos. Perhaps that's an insight as to the sickness in our society. Other amazing vlogs - jeffHK he always finds a way to capture a bleek container ship beautifully.

I used to be a travel agent and used to tell my travelers to talk and interact with locals, like the two of you do. You get to truly experience their country and they get the opportunity to interact with people whom they never would have.
