Unequivocally it is your boat and travelling with your family. Safety of the boat and your family or anybody else on board It’s on your shoulder as Captain, in term of safety or anything else encompassing the circumstances at the time. So, I don’t see why that you must vindicate your circumstances to anyone. As you said it correctly. You are making the judgement call at the time.

I trust your judgment, Keith. Teaching your kids how to assess danger and take appropriate precautions will benefit them greatly. Having your 17 lines tied up for the winds is a good example of maybe going overboard but in reality those winds were strong and with a 55 foot cat- better safe than sorry. Hey one request I have - You talked about hooking up those extra lines and then you'll have to unhook them later. Do you ever film that? Show us.

Surprised you don't have crotch straps on those PFDs along with spray hoods. Its not expensive to after fit and will really make a difference in the water when it all goes pear shaped. Worth adding and doing a video of a before and after demo in the water.

Your kids can swim like fish....and if one should fall overboard, they just may quickly swim to a sugarscoup before anyone can react. I agree with Keith....a harness definitely at night and during bad conditions while on deck. I was beginning to hyperventilate when Jack swam under that big boulder....an avoidable danger even with scuba gear. A piece of coral could snag his swim trunks and the need to take a fresh breath of air comes quickly with stress and panic.....plus it is not cool to give his Mom gray hairs.....or his subscribers ;). This was another very enjoyable episode!!!!!!

Love the humor... Classic! There is one common denominator among sailors. There is a group of people out there that have made sailing their hobby and insist on sailing only in the most pure sense. That includes no frills and making sure you're wearing harnesses, foul weather gear, headlights, rubber boots, and they only eat from a can of spam while on watch on a 20 foot wooden masted sloop that navigates with a sextant. Screw that! Those dorks need to expand their horizons and wake up!! It's 2018, not 1930. But they will continue to comment with their nonsense.

Wife just gave birth to child #9. yes, NINE. I don't have a boat (yet), but when asked about why I'd want to sail around the world I have, on occasion, used the same "lose the unwanted kids" joke. For some reason the men laugh, the women scowl. Invariably I get some comment like, "well, you know how those kids happen don't you?" and I respond, "I know how it happens, I just can't figure out who's doing it!" … again the men laugh but I now get a bruised shoulder too. Thanks for another good video!!

Fantastic story telling just keeps getting better. This video moves seamlessly from themes and compelling images in a way that looks like a seasoned tv producer created it..I know because I am a seasoned tv producer. You are so fun to watch because you have a fantastic mix of entertainment, education, and your stories move so well.
I always fast forward through your intro song, but I have watched you since day one so I do need to see it. Once that intro ends things get great really fast. Raising your kids to deal with reality, take some risks, and work hard should make your videos required viewing for all parents.

I have met many American people but find your family to be the most relatable to our culture. If you love your life in America then please don’t come to NZ because you would fit in so well you would never want to leave. What a gift you have given to your children by doing what you are doing.
