How to Fiberglass & Engine Room Makeover! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 120

Our engine room has gone form a Oily Greasy mess to a shiny bright white! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Nandji is high and dry in the boat yard. With a looong list of jobs we plan to complete whilst on the hard stand, we are busy in renovating our engine room ready to install our new Yanmar "Fang." We have been lucky to have a fellow Salty sailor wish to help us install the new engine, Uncle Kevin is also a guru fibreglasser after glassing surfboards professionally for over 30 years. This man knows a thing or two about fibreglassing and he takes us through the types of matting we use to reinforce the bearers ready for the new engine mounts to bolt on too. After two weeks on the hard stand our engine room has gone form a oily greasy mess from our old engine to a glistening white solid room ready for our new motor! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! Sub'd. Serious question: That's a huge field change to an old vessel; wouldn't it have been financially better to invest in a newer vessel with newer everything? Just curious.
Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe
Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe - 5 years ago
Good question! All boats need work and have problems, even the shiny new ones, at least we know ours. To sell a boat it could take years, to find the right boat could take years. There are not many boats prepared for offshore cruising so we would still have to invest work and money into a newer boat. to buy a boat with a newish motor it would have to be under 10 years old and it would be WAY out of our price range. We LOVE Nandji and can see ourselves sailing her for the next 10 years at least!! We'd rather spend our time enjoying our current boat and working on her then looking for something 'better'. After we finish the boatwork she will be like a brand new one and we can keep going! :)

Keep going to Phuket! It is hard here in Malaysia to find materials and get work completed quickly. Phuket has options on options for everything! Only another 120nm... A little more cost in haul out but much faster and easier for everything else! Good luck!

Great video thank you! A good way to control dust in an enclosed area is to open a window or hatch at one end and put a window fan blowing air out at the other end. This not only controls dust but it creates a negative pressure so dust doesn't migrate to other areas that you're trying to keep clean. If possible try to stay on the upwind side of the work and also try use the fan to work with the natural air flow if any.

So happy to see that the " Old Girl " is having such a good visit at the Rejuvenation Spa , Nothing like a really good makeover .
And the best part of that is seeing and knowing how happy it makes the 2(3) of you ,

I sure understand the " see-through " floor thought , as ..."Old Smokey "... it an;t no more ..."All hail FANG " ( did I get that right )

For all the Sh-t and worries that the two of you have gone through ( that I'm sure a lot of others would have given up long ago ) I can't possibly imagine how good you're feeling now ...and with each day it keeps getting better .

No question , you're my favorite saliors/people( legends) /channel ...And as much as I have so loved seeing your travels and diving etc , I am even enjoying these last several videos more , as I can so easily see the joy in the two of you .

Big thanks to Uncle K , ...good people for good people

Keep em coming

Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe
Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe - 5 years ago
+Gary Souza your right in certain circumstances but we are finding our hands work much better for the work we are doing. We tried the roller and it was much harder, we didnt have as much control, the roller dried the lamnent out and moved the air around instead of taking it out.
Gary Souza
