One important point to mention, when calculating knots to miles traveled, remember the conversion factor. 6 knots for an hour is actually nearly 7 miles traveled (6.9), so travelling 6 knots for half an hour would be roughly 3.45 miles traveled.

you wouldn't actually want to convert to regular 'land' miles.. when he says miles, he means nautical miles.. any reference to 'miles' at sea almost always means nautical miles (the nautical part is just dropped).
