How would one use this to "repair a broken tiller"?

George, no set way to do this, but here are a few ideas. For a break along the length, tie a couple of constrictors or splint along the length, then tie the constrictors. For a crack across the tiller, use a splint on top and bottom to span the two pieces. Tie constrictors over the splints on each end to hold the broken pieces together. By the way, to untie the constrictor, slide it off the end of the device. It unties itself with a shake or two.
