I have used this mounting system in some really bad weather and there has not been the slightest movement of the camera How to mount a GoPro on the bow of a Laser Sail Boat and get great shots like these! You will need 5 things 1) A GoPro Camera. I think that this is kind of obvious but it is worth pointing out 2) A GoPro tripod mount 3) A ¼" - 20 bolt that you cut the head off so that the bolt is ¾" long. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel but a hack saw will work too. 4) A wing nut that will fit on the bolt 5) The bow eye off your laser with a ¼" hole drilled in the center The ¼" -20 bolt cut to ¾" The bow eye of a Laser with a ¼" hole drilled in Thread the cut off bolt in the Tripod Mount. Next hold the wing nut under the hole in the bow eye. Then put the Tripod Mount and cut off bolt through the hole and spin tight. Line up the tripod mount so that it is facing straight back Just mount the GoPro and you are good to go! Music: Kevin MacLeod

It could work on a surf board however I think it would be better to use the surf board mounts.

Buy the gopro surf board mount or use suction cup or a flat mount

I do not tie my buggy to the bow eye, I tie it to the blocks at the bottom of the mast.

what you can do is tie a pole sticking out the back off the boom then using the handel bar mount attach it to the pole it wouks fine and gives nice stern footage of up wind and when going down wind gets a nice shot of the side, i find that it works well and that you are almost always focused in the picture

Hey man, I sail laser too, and was wondering if you'd had any ideas of mounting the gopro off the stern using the pole. was thinking it would make for some sick boat handling and downwind videos.

I have some questions for you that will help me get a better idea of what you are looking for The way that I am thinking of doing it I think will use a tripod mount. Would that be OK? I take it that you are looking for something more that sticking on one of the surf mounts? Is it OK to put a hole in boogie board? And anything else that might help me get a better idea of what you need. -Kyle

@Gabriel6117 I would think that you could use the surf mount however I cannot say that I have seen it done. The only other way that I have seen a GoPro mounted is using a flat adhesive mount just behind the bow eye. This works because there is a line up the middle of the boat the is flat and free of nonskid.

@Gabriel6117 My worry with the surf mount is that because of the uneven nonskid at the bow it would not stick that well. As with any mount over water make sure that you tie your camera on. @OneEagerBeaver There would be no problem mounting with the suction cup mount. And if it comes off there is no damage done. I would add a loop to your camera and tie it on see my other video find it here youtube.com/watch?v=0D752upa8_0

@kylemartn101 when the suction cup mount gets ripped off, does it damage the actual suction cup or the boat? Also would the suction cup be adequate for sailing a laser on a small lake with little to medium wind (no waves?)

@alexposition Yes you could use the suction cup mount. I have used it several time to get shot from the back and sides of the boat. However for the shots facing back I do not want to have to worry about it coming off. I have found that the suction cup mount is great for shouting out of the water however it is not so good at holding on when it get hit by a wave, I have had it ripped off the side of my boat several times the other problem you can’t mount it to the deck because of the nonskid.
