Thanks. I like your version of this knot. In "Knots at Work", Jeff Jepson shows an anchor hitch that does not have a second "cross loop". Will try your version for tree work.

Will do. I'm thinking that this might apply when building a "positioning lanyard' or possibly when doing a tree traverse using a "Captain Hook" device. I am a novice recreational tree climber and am progressing at a snails pace. And I love all the little details of a technique. I will update you with my progress.

Captain John, the bitter end is the end which stays upon the boat! you are referring to the running end as the bitter end unless that shackle is hooking up to the boat?
bitter end:that part of an anchor cable which is abaft the bitts and thus remains inboard when a ship is riding at anchor
