I dunno if I ever told you this Dan, but this video taught me to sail for sure. You and captain Ron. I bought a sailboat just a few days after this video came out. Told my wife "Dan said point it into the wind and hoist the sails" as I was pulling my first halyard. She replied "holy shit we're gonna crash". To which I responded "don't worry about them they will get out of the way, I learned that driving the Saratoga". A few accidental gybes later and we were getting the hang of it. So thanks for the pep talk.

MInn-Kota makes various thrust trolling motors. We picked up one (45 lb thrust) on Craigslist for $60. Check it with your car battery to make sure it works.

For me there were actually 4 Steps; in between (2) hoisting the sail and (3) "Powering up" the sail, he arranged a Class IV as a cushion...Yep!

This is bad advice if u want to die then do as this guy does n don't wear a life jacket ...ask the coastguard ...people die every year because they were not wearing a lifejacket n slipped in the water n got into trouble

Nice EZ video.
From an educational standpoint you may want to explain in your videos
1. WHY your heading into the wind before you attempt to raise the sail(s)
2. WHY your roping off the tiller
3. WHICH way the wind was blowing.
4. How would some one without a trolling motor do it.

2. So the tiller doesn't turn him away from the wind..
3. From the front of the boat..
4. A regular motor will work..

As far as it goes... it works.

But it leaves out ALL of the WHY you do what he's doing and he just got the boat moving forward, slowly, in a gentle wind doing a close haul "tack"

Turn more with wind to the side without knowing what you are doing and you'll very quickly lay the mast in the water, throwing everyone out of the boat.

it's a 26 foot Pearson-as long as it was not really windy or heavy current it would move the boat about 3.5 miles per hour and on a single battery would go about 2 miles
