Sailing 5 years ago 1,633 views
Patrick Childress talks about almost falling overboard while peeing off a boat when he was younger, and about what other professionals feel about peeing on a boat, and what they practice and teach in regards to peeing over the side on a sailboat, particularly when offshore. Hank Schmitt from Offshore Passage Opportunities then gives a brief lesson on how to use a marine head so it doesn’t leave any smell or mess, and why he calls the “head” the “gym”, and how many times to pump a marine toilet. A quick sailing how to video, another in the series of The Sailing Tips from the Pros, so you can hear how the pros feel about peeing off the side of the sail boat, and if real men should sit down on a marine head or not. And how many times you should flush a marine toilet to keep it all clean and smelling like roses! When the call of duty on a sailboat happens next time, what will you do? Hank Schmitt runs a company that matches crews to sailboats for offshore passages. He is actually the #1 crew networking service in North America for Offshore passages. He also runs the NARC rally...the North American Rally to the Caribbean. This is the sailing trip that Rebecca took in 2001, to learn more about offshore sailing after several years of owning her boat and dreaming of cruising, or possibly sailing around the world. Patrick was the Teacher/Captain on that boat, and 2 years later they got together, and have been sailing around the world on SV Brick House for more than 12 years, slowly circumnavigating. Also, What do you think? Pee over the side? Or Sit down in your head and get your exercise?
"Hi welcome aboard, if I catch you peeing from the sugar scoop while at sea you're off the boat."
"Your bunk is right this way."
Hi, it gets louder by turning the volume up,
but it sounds as if there is a cloth over the speaker,
or in olden times the treble was turned down and the base up.
For me it is ok.
It is still listenable.
I only answered because of the other comment and your reply.
I would think it would be a one-off.
Try bringing the video up on a smartphone and I think you will see.
It was only a passing thought when the video started and I turned it up and forgot about it.
I read the comments after I watch the videos.
Keep up the good work.
