Just About Sailing August 2016 - Vee Berth mods, daughter visits and Carnival time

Some tips on how not to do boat modifications. Plus, the dreary start to August finally turned into good weather and my daughter visited and managed to get a sail - how seriously she took the whole thing I am not so sure. Plus, small town Carnival fun. Flaming June at last. Lots of sun, but no wind. Lazy Jacks fitted - a bad workman blames his tools they say. A Summer motor on a calm day round the buoy and back. One wheel better? Just About Sailing. A light-hearted video diary of a sailboat liveaboard.

That's very kind of you.  But let's be honest.  Everyone has different tastes and different senses of humour.  My sense of humour even gets on my nerves sometimes - so I fully expect the occasional thumbs down.  And I have dropped quite a few video technical clangers - particularly with regard to sound quality.  But I am pleased that you are enjoying the videos - I enjoy making them.

Oops. Poor fiberglass. Mine has similar evidence of my wanton boat work skills. Looks like a lot happening by the water. Fun town. Might have to bring my boat there. Looking forward to the next video. Cheers!

Thanks for the comment. I can do engines and electrics - everything else is a bit of a dark art for me.  Watchet always has something going on in the Summer.  I haven't covered half of it.  But it does tend to get a bit quiet in the Winter months.

Unusual that their is no v berth infill already? All the boats I've had with V berths have had one, perhaps it went missing over the years?

Just about sailing Mines a home finished boat too. Factory boats have fibreglass interior lockers, seats & galley but mine is all wood. Kit built boats seem to be popular in the 70s and 80s. Perhaps people had more time on their hands?

Sorry for late reply.  I like to reply to all comments and have just realised that some simply haven't worked.  Some sort of YouTube bug.  Many Mirage 28's were 'home finished'.  I think mine might have been as it has a non-standard cupboard where the chart table should be.  It was probably supposed to have an infill, but they just didn't do it for some reason.

I managed to saw through my hand with a circular saw, the other people in the ward had done similar daft things with power saws, luckily it was only your cockpit locker that suffered. Great to have an entertaining crew!

I think I was concentrating so much on keeping my hands out of the way that I forgot to avoid the fibreglass.  Luckily fibreglass has a very characteristic smell when being sawn or drilled - otherwise the damage might have been bigger.
