The issue with cats in the valley and why they are so rare is the tendency of cats to go into irons so easily. Be sure to have your engine at the ready if you sal in a high wind or storm situation. If not you may be pushed fast up against a rock or onto shore and the only way is to power out of the situation before you are high and dry.

Ha, ha, yea but I guess I think of the dogs as 'persons' too for sure. Most serious sailors attach one of those long retractable leashes when the dog is on deck and are sure to clip their toenails short as they slip on a dry deck not just a wet one.

Always carry a spare winch handle and be sure to pay a bit extra and get the ones that float.
