I found that knitting yarn works better for a wind indicator. Not only is more responsive than the video tape but it holds up at highway speed when trailering.

I am probably the only beach cat in the world that has a wind indicator at the top of the mast.

But I love it for downwind, keep it exactly at 90 degrees and you get the most out of it. You really notice just a few degrees off. And imho up there you get a better indication of the true wind than half a meter above the water

I remember the magnet tape spool I brought along for you decades ago. The 1000 or so meters lasted for years. I still got some, it's sturdier than video tape, no wonder, it was professional quality for computer centers.

What are the dinghies behind you near the end of the clip with yellow and blues sails furled round the mast?

Once the jib is up and tensioned using the jib halyard, the wire inside the luff of the jib becomes the forestay. The longer exposed wire forestay (that was used initially to hold the mast up) is now not needed. The second chain plate is used to pull the longer forestay away from the jib so it won't cause wear. Since I trailer my H16, I use a bungee cord instead of a rope (line) to pull down on the second chain plate and make the longer forestay taut.

So, if you go down below the center hole for high wind on the jib clew, do you go up one hole for very light wind? 'Cuz... we never get anything more than light wind in my neighborhood.

middle hole or down one - those are the only ones to use.
