RS Venture Flying a Chute in Newport Harbor, CA. The RS Venture is a remarkably stable and dependable boat – perfect as a family sailing dinghy, teaching beginners, taking children for a joyride or cruising around the coast. California Inclusive Sailing improves quality of life for individuals and families by offering the freedom and empowerment of sailing that able-bodied people routinely enjoy. California Inclusive Sailing began when they realized that people with a disability have limited opportunity to sail despite enormous community resources dedicated to waterfront access. Although sailing is an international Special Olympics sport, the Southern California region abandoned sailing in 2008 due to budget cuts. Wounded veterans support groups provide a many quality of life activities, but in their home port of Newport Beach, no program existed to serve this population. Their efforts focus on deployment of modern sailboats with universal accessibility features to allow people with cognitive or physical disability to enjoy, share and benefit from sailing.
