SDYC Sailing Tips: C420 Light Air Scalloping - Part I

By Shone Bowman, Jake Reynolds, & Austin Dias Scalloping is a trick that works well in all boats. In the above video, one can see how it works. The team starts in a light patch with some chop and consequently bears down, eases sails, and heels slightly to leeward. As they sail out of the chop and light air, they slowly head up with their leeward heel, flatten, and bring the sails back in. Just before they stall from pinching too high, they repeat step one again for speed thru waves.
