Maybe you prefer the challenge of sailing across the Southern Oceans enduring the fiercest storms they have to offer? Or you just wish to learn to sail but have no access to a boat to do so? With Sailaway you can do all of these things. Sailaway lets you explore the world's oceans in the comfort of your own home, on PC or Mac, in the most accurate simulation of sailing you can find anywhere! In Sailaway, the oceans of the planet have been recreated with unparalleled accuracy; making a trip across the Pacific take months, just as it would on a real boat. With a persistent online world, adjust your settings and your boat will continue to sail even if you aren’t online. Receive updates via email as your boat continues its progress, but don't forget to check in often – with real-time weather data pulled from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) conditions can change in just a few hours. Sailaway gives players the most realistic digital sailing experience to date with in-depth simulations of weather, wind and currents while your boat and it’s sail are modelled to give even the most experienced sailor a work-out. The early difficulty modes will let you sail away while you learn the game and then it truly comes alive when the virtual help is removed and it’s you against the forces of nature. If you’re going to beat your friends then you’ll need to plot your course and constantly monitor your sail’s shape, use any slight advantage to help you arrive first! The ocean can sometimes feel like a lonely place which is why Sailaway includes plenty of ways to enjoy activities with friends and strangers alike. Real-time global, local and group chat will allow you to communicate freely with other sailors to organise your own voyages or even to just pass on sailing tips! Invite others to your boat to help tackle the voyage ahead or if you fancy some friendly competition you can invite them along with their boat to sail alongside each other, we make it easy to share the sailing experience with others. If competitive racing is more your thing then we also have you covered, Sailaway lets you take part in races across the globe! Record your finish times in our online leaderboards and challenge one another for the top spot. Sailaway has been designed to accurately simulate the wonders of sailing as realistically as possible, which means all the little details count! I don't know what is the best upwind for this game, this game don't show the polar charter for the boat, but if you search for Polar charter to 38foot, you will find somethink about 42º and 37º, depends what boat is. And downwind with Gennaker i think is about +-145º. All this with medium winds, like 15kts, less or more than 15kts more TWA for upwind and less TWA for downwind, you need to create apparent wind.

I have been thinking about getting this sim.  I have a recent obsession with wanting to sail a sailboat around the Caribbean. However my fear is I will find it boring. Is there any type of progression system? Anything to add some meat and potato's to the game play? Its not that I don't understand that it is a sim , I do. But I would like some ocean type of life options. Maybe trolling for fish while sailing,  boat repairs, barnacle scraping, cabin access, supply's water food ext., and some sort of money option. Not sure how you could earn money. Maybe just some sort of exp system where you would have to be this lvl to sail this type of boat. You can earn more exp by sailing in expert mode vs auto. Idk.... Im rambling here. Anyway I will refer back to my question. Are there any meat and potato's?

Nice ramble, I enjoyed that little jaunt lol.
In a word No, not yet anyways. I have been asking for something along these lines but to be honest the community is a little split on this inclusion and there are other things on the to do list, so either way it will take a little time I think.

You're opponent was from Tamworth. If I've got this right, Steve (Sims & Stuff) mentioned that he resides in Portsmouth. I watched a YouTube video of him yesterday when he took a trip from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight in Sailaway.

+Nunsweepit421 hi great choice and yes absolutely, I have been waiting for the cats to arrive.
Just trying out omsi now, had an issue where I couldn't end a route just now so need some more practise and first time back on omsi for a very long time so there is all that to relearn and overcome too lol

I'm getting this later today in the Steam Summer Sale. 20% off. Can't flipping wait. It will then take a few hours for me to download - slow BB speed where I live. Have you any plans to make a video on the new 09 Catamaran that's just been released? Lastly,..Any thoughts on becoming a Bus Company owner in OMSI now we have the new addon? I'll happily come and work for you and I'm sure many others would too seeing as you're established with a YouTube channel.

SIM UK: I enjoy your videos on Sailaway. I have some suggestions for mapping the controller: Shift + Ctrl + U will remove the user interface making for a full view. This can be configured to be a single button push on game controller! Cheers!

It said unfurl the genoa 100% but you furled it 100% Hint: genoa unfurled 100% is genoa furled 0%
Sim UK
Sim UK - 7 years ago
+William Cordova yes that's how I understand it too. Maybe I wasn't following instructions? I tend to go fast with my own trim, sometimes.

I was just commenting on how confusing that game hint was. It said unfurl 100% which led you to furl it 100%. Furled is in (rolled up) and unfurled is out. So unfurled 100% is fully unrolled and open.

Sim UK - 7 years ago
+William Cordova I don't really listen to the advice given, it tends to slow me down too much. Unless your saying furl is out and unfurl is in?
