How did we prepare to cross the Atlantic?? Join us as we sail down to Las Palmas to meet the rest of the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) fleet, where we knuckle down to the 1047 jobs we need to do to prepare for our very first ocean crossing (approx 3000 nautical miles, 3 weeks at sea). We meet some lovely fellow cruisers, try to keep up with the ARC parties, pick up our final crew member Holly, and have some major rigging issues that threaten to prevent us from leaving at the last minute… A MASSIVE thank you to Jason and Tony from Ensign Yacht Brokers David, Jean-Mathieu, and Ben from Nautitech Jose and all the riggers from Alisios Sailing Centre, Las Palmas... What a shame about the rig, drag that is failed inspection, but the support you got to get it fixed was pretty good. Was that the crew of Tranquilo as the party beside you?

Production boats, they are built to a price level not a quality level. But I wonder if the rigging parts were just a bad batch or inferior Chinese stainless steel..

Rustie it was definitely just the parts and I'm not sure the fractures would have been evident during installation but I'm no expert on this. Seems like it was a bad batch to me.

Have Nauticat come back to you with the post mortem on the cracked components? A real shame you had the additional stress piled upon you prior to ARC.

That'd be Nautitech. Nauticat make motorsailers in Finland....
Am also interested to see what Nautitech say about the cracked components.

Cheers James! It would have been quite sad to leave after everyone, and one of the main reasons we joined the ARC was to have the feeling of safety in numbers, so it was great to get it organised :)

Cheers, the best thing was we got it all sorted out in time to leave with the ARC. Was a massive effort from all involved which we were grateful for. Better to find these things and fix them then let them cause problems. Jerry the Rigger has a very good eye for these things :)
