Anther thing you can do is use your garmin to set a boundary alarm along the coast, you can do straight lines, circles or boxes and have the alarm sound when you cross out of or into the boundary. You can also use the radar sector proximity alarm to alert you of obstacles in addition to AIS, depth, and GPS error alarms.
