Single handed operation of the Jeanneau Yacht 57 By: Ian Van

I have spoken to lot's of clients and potential buyers who ask the same question. Can this yacht be handled by myself or shorthanded? I always answer yes; the reasons are that when you get up to a vessel of 50ft or greater it actually becomes easier believe it or not. The reason for this is you start finding bow thrusters on 50+ yachts along with electric winches and in Jeanneau's case the way we order the yachts 53 + electric Genoa furler's. all of these options and with the new modern hull design make single handling a vessel of this size very easy. Actually I even find it easier to sail this 57 then my own Jeanneau 39i P.V. I hope that you find this video helpful in explaining what I'm trying to say and if you would like additional information on the Jeanneau product or are looking to buy or sell a yacht please feel free to contact me at any time day or night at 1-619-507-4416 or ianvt@cruisingyachts.net I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Ian VT

gotta love the fact they always do these demos in perfect days... try docking a 40' Jeanneau in reverse with a 20 kt side wind and no thrusters...

And that, there, ladies and gentlemen, is how you sell a sailboat. Pros call this "content marketing." You show people how to operate the boat in a friendly, non-stressed, non-salesy way, and you make friends with them as you do it. After a few videos, they know you, they know the boat, and they feel comfortable enough to start the process of buying one. He even gives you his phone number on the video. Bold move, but for something this expensive it probably pays off. Buyers should, of course, understand that there's a lot more to sailing a yacht than what is shown here. But, that's their lookout. Nice job, Ian. I wish you every success.

Sure, lets try that in 20 knts or sorry land lubbers 26mph wind rue, and see how you do not thash that boat.

I think the arguement was try single handing this boat in gale force winds.

Yep! Next time. Lavalier mic, with wind shield. Great video anyway. I want a boat like that. Maybe I'll drop an extra dollar on the Mega Millions next week.

They should have placed the throttle higher up as to make it easier to reach without bending over.

That's a great job docking - especially considering it's a single screw boat!

Fantastic video.  Thanks for sharing.  It's not fair, you make it look so easy.  Every time i leave and enters the harbour with my 17 foot boat with a 40 hk, my hearth is racing and i'm almost pissing in my pants.  More practice i guess.

Where's the fun of sailing a boat that is "all" electronic?
Sean Bailey

Its all fun and games till your in a storm and your electric winches fail lol.

The fun is being in the sea you don't have to use the "electronics " all the time.

Oracle has one that would go really well with one sail.  be kinda hard to single hand it though.

So if you change direction i guess youd have to pull in the jib and then let it out again on the other side of the main sail? Ive always wanted to learn how to sail but i think id end up with spaghetti for rigging and a beached landing craft for a sail boat.
Samuel Marcom

I dont have experience with big boats, but for small sailboats its alot easier than you would think and the jib just hits the mast and goes over (depends on if its a jib or genoa) but you should really learn, great passtime

Man you make that look so easy, I did my day skipper out of gosport England in winter, force 5 winds and trying to winch a Victoria into a birth, that experience put me off sailing for quite a while but you have just ignited my interest again.

Your the best, a born natural, see that, you didn't even break a sweat while talking, chewing gum and docking. You been in a race or two:) Pay no attention to the armchair experts comments. They only prove their point, that they are just plan ugly nasty dildos in contempt of your video. Its sad people have to act stupid like that, thinking everyone else is. Without any doubt the 57' is the pride of the line. Bonjour

I admit to being a poor sailor having only limited time on any rigging almost at all to speak of. In less than 10 min. you've bosted my confidence greatly, it's amazing some of the equipment on these large sailboats! Thank you for your video.
