I enjoyed that, I took my Albin Ballad out for the first time solo this year, pretty daunting casting off for the first time knowing you're on your own.

Hi from Bermuda! Just stumbled across this vid as it was suggested in my feed. Nice job, really liked the shots from the top of the mast. There's something so peaceful about a sailboat once you're out, and the mornings (most) are amazing. Cheers!

Excellent, congratulations. Not only a solo sail to deal with, but all the excellent camera work as well. My boat is also called Serenity - only I'm not sure I'm ready to let my daughter sail off in her single handed yet.

Catalina 27. I own a Catalina 320 and can single hand that boat no issue. Of course you know this now, tiller pilot is worth it's weight in gold. Nice job, and hopefully you enjoyed yourself. Sometimes taking the boat out by myself is preferred. No one to give instructions to, just get it done. Drifting back into a shoal or rocks is my fear as well. On the Chesapeake we have very few rocks, but LOTS of shoals. Thinking your Dad's boat is coming out of the water soon. Because it's Canada eh. :)

Well done. I remember my first solo. Nerve-racking, constantly thinking about what to do, what I had forgotten to do, etc, etc. The most challenging bit was actually dropping and picking up the mooring. Once 'out there' things were cool. Tense, but cool.
Enjoy that sense of achievement and many more to you.

Congrats on your first solo Jennifer. You did great (actually, much better than I did my first time out alone). When I was a pilot, the tradition was to cut-off the tie of the person after their first solo. Cutting bits of clothing off of sailors is probably not appropriate --- so we really should find a suitable way to celebrate this important event in the life of a mariner. ;-)

Long way to go for a sail. I would have thought the Western Isles of Scotland and the lochs would be a lot nearer and just as good a place to learn to sail? Certainly very beautiful. Thanks for posting.

Yes indeed... But my folks are in Victoria and a) have a boat; and b) are willing to teach me / lend it to me :). It's a Catalina 27.
