I've watched this many times! Was your sunfish a rental or did you own it? I live in Dallas but have been to Lakeway before. I'd be willing to go down to Austin to rent one on a local lake if that's available. Can't find anyone who rents them here.

There is nothing as simple and as wonderful as performance boardboat sailing.
The Sunfish surfs it's own bow wave in about 12 mph wind. Happy people and the sound of the lake as the hull is carried silently across the water on the breeze. its romantic alright and it can be exiting when the winds get up to around 18-22mph!!!!

Love this video!! brings back so many fond memories. You two are a great looking couple and seem to have a lot of fun together. as far as 16compacs comment. That person has absolutely no idea what sailing is all about. You both hit it out of the park with this, you prove you have more passion for sailing than that bafoon. sailing is about having fun and spending time with those you love. It doesn't matter where you sit. I would like to know how many America Cups 16compac has won:

it's my first time handling the boat so I was learning... my friend ( not professional ) showed me how and I rode with him twice... we had a lot of fun even we don't do right :) thanks for the tips

what a doober ! if you learn to sail : coil your bow line , dont let it trail. it can get caught on obstructions. next , let your crew know when you come about and keep them facing the full sail not on the opposite side of the boat. keep them aware of the boom at all times, his girlfriend got conked pretty good. lastly, captain from the cockpit not sitting on the stern. safe sailing !

Sunfish are still being made, so you can find new ones at various dealers. With an estimated 300,000 of them having been made and sold over the last 60 years, though, there are a lot of used ones available on the market. I found mine two weeks ago on Craigslist. There are also Sunfish specific forums, and you can sometimes find them being offered for sale there. New Sunfish sell for between $4000 and $5000. Used can run from $100 - $1000+, depending on location and condition.

Stumbled upon this and am glad I did. Reminds me of my wife's and my days on the North Carolinian coast in the '80s with our Pearson sloop; now living in mid-Georgia--drat! We miss sailing! I see that water was going in your hull when the boat heels too much. How do you manage to keep water in there unless theres some kind of drain there somewhere or you bail the water out?

1. the girl is gorgeous. 2. sit on the windward side of the boat. Both of you. That's the uphill side. The boat actually sails faster the more level it is. 3. take some sailing lessons.

or 420 centimeters i cant remember but its bigger than a sunfish

It could i guess but its not really made to. A 420 is geared towards racing but basically its just a fast boat its very light and it has a center board not a keel. ( a centerboard is just a piece of wood it is so the boat dosnt get weighed down by a keel.) It is supposed to be two people, one for the jib and one for the main sheet. It is possible to sail it solo. It is called a 420 because the hauls length is 42 meters im pretty sure (its some kind of mesurement.

I'm 14 and i took 1 session of lessons and I they helped. Before i went to lessons i got a boat like the sunfish and i spent three days i think just sailing around and then they really taught me and now i can sail pretty good and now im sailing a 420

@mattyz2004 that's cool thanks Matty! I edit on final cut pro 7 since Spring 2011... before that I edited on iMovie '09. Yeah it's hard to progress because of small wake... you can add some fat sacs and pole if you don't have a pole or tower... it helps a lot with rope higher than the ski pole.

Hey Mitch Love your videos, i recently bought a gopro because of u and i have no regrets! I was just wondering what editing software you use. Also, i live in a small town in australia. Our lake is rarely smooth most of the time choppy, i dont have a wakeboat, but i have a skii boat, and i want to get better but it is so hard to progress when ur only getting a metre air when u jump the wake, any suggestions to progress?
