That was a bit of a blast. I have not seen Larry since Panama, when he was still cruising on a mono, as I recall. As a shipwright myself I personally have never considered buying a cat but that as Larry points out, is old news really and I am sure that the safety issues with capsizing have been greatly minamissed these days. If you can rule out turning turtle then Cats are ahead on most other features. You are doing the right thing picking your Jedi that knows Cats and there idiosyncrasies because those decisions that Larry mentions, that are usually needed under pressure in the dark and right now, can be very different depending on what sort of boat you are on. Dam I really miss my old boat and the lifestyle again now. This is your fault Larry!

Very disappointed. Larry did not mention how  sail selection is more critical for a catamaran vs a monohull during the same apparent wind direction and WS.  A monohull has an inherent "safety valve": Heeling.  This relieves tension on the standing rigging and pressure on the sails.  Catamarans do not heel, thus tremendous  forces are imparted to the standing rigging and sails.  Reducing sail has to occur before the anticipated wind increase arrives. Yep I am "tired" of heeling and most of all not being in a fully protected helm position during inclement weather.  If possible I would certainly use Larry's expertise to help me select the appropriate catamaran for me.

good points. I do favor cats, yet it is important to point out the differences - everything is a compromise - it just depends on what you want or need.

Catamaran? No, thank you. Those floating condominums just do not apeal to me.

So why is your boat for sale now? Hope you're not giving up the dream.

Great video. He should (wrong term), let me rephrase that, it would be nice if he could have a channel or a Q&A on a channel like yours. He is a low key kind of guy but I assume a very knowledgeable person who could educate new and old alike. I don't have a sale boat but wish I did. I have paddled canoes several thousand miles over the years but sailing fascinates me. Thanks to both of you for sharing. larry
