the GoPro won't fog up if you fill the housing chamber with AC air and close it quickly with camera inside. AC has no moisture in it so this = no fogging (condensation). Works like a charm when I free dive.

I think what your spit does is it causes the water to stick to the lens, in a thin film. Essentially creating a clear window of water, rather than what happens w/o the spit, where the water droplets just stick to the lense, and ruin every shot every time. I lose less clips to water on my lens now that i regularly lick a finger, wipe the lens, and dip the camera in the water and shake it briefly before each important moment i want recorded.

I can help with that. I'm guessing the "casing" you mentioned is polyethylene (usually C2H4). When water hits the plastic, the carbon atoms attempt to covalent bond with the hydrogen in the water (H2O). This force can be powerful enough to ignore gravity. Since (generally speaking) there's nothing in the atmospheric air you're breathing to attract those same hydrogen atoms, those droplets can stick for a long time.

However, in this case the saliva is acting as a surfactant -- a portmanteau of "surface" and "agent". The carbon atoms in the polyethylene now have something new to attract to, so that water just rolls off. Of course, you do have to reapply every now and then because the kinetic energy you supply while moving about combines with the gravity to gradually strip away the surfactant.

Keep in mind, though, that bacteria living in your mouth secrete acids that can damage glass over time, so for the lens itself, it's worthwhile to invest in a small bottle of RainX or something.

I definitely DON''T want to insult Atua. We have several lakes near where I live. There are at least 10 drownings reported on the news each summer. Each time the news reporter says, "This could have been prevented if [victim's name] was wearing a life jacket".

Hi! ve been watching for a while now and you're an incredible surfer! I just got a surfboard last Monday!! Its a 7 footer and Im getting the hang of it. I can't wait until I get good enough to use a shorter board, but the waves near me aren't as good as yours. Anyway can't wait for the daily videos!!!

Don’t switch to a short board of the waves aren’t to big. A short board isn’t necessarily about skill. It’s more about the size of the wave. How big are your waves on average

The most impressive part of the video was actually your knowledge of the water. As you were going out the 1st time, I'm thinking about riptides, rocks, sting rays, sharks, jellyfish LOL...can you tell I'm not an Ocean person :) But yea, it was cool to see how comfortable you are in the water and for you to talk about things like spotting a good wave & using the riptides to your advantage. Thanks for the lesson :)

You should really get the GoPro 5 or 6 because it never dogs up for me and I surf in freezing cold santa Cruz so my old GoPro would fog up so much but the 5 or 6 doesn’t at all.
