I agree that they shouldn't tease these animals with food and cause them to crash into the cages. On the other hand I don't think that we should stop allowing people to dive in cages with them. Why?
I don't like places like SeaWorld, Marineland or any other "aquarium " that captures or breeds large marine mammals and sharks and keeps them in captivity forever. It's cruel. If you want to see the animal, go see it in it's environment, where the animal has a choice to interact with you or leave. (They can't keep a White alive in an aquarium anyway.)
It would be incredibly dangerous to just free dive with a Great White.
Yes, I've watched the Shark Week videos about some people doing it....I'm not sure if they're crazy or just very brave.
What I do know is that this particular animal has been vilified by a series of Hollywood movies. Giving people an opportunity to actually see them and interact with them, in the somewhat controlled environment of a cage for the humans, gives us all an appreciation for this magnificent predator.
Do these dives habituate the sharks to humans? Best answer, probably. We shouldn't be feeding them. I would guess that like any other wild animals you shouldn't feed them because they become less wary of humans and would approach any human looking for food. If they don't get it...well, then you might appear to be an adequate substitute for that fish and much easier to catch.
Just looking at them though, I see nothing wrong with that. Who knows, it might even give a few of those sharks the chance to see what a human looks like up close in diving gear and they'll be able to tell the difference between a human and a sea lion next time they are hunting. It seems that many attacks happen because of the shark mistaking the identity of a surfer, snorkeler or diver.
Maybe you don't agree. Okay. Just remember that humans gave these animals a monstrous reputation. Isn't it up to us to change that and give them a little positive PR when we can?

I like to deep see fish once or twice a year and the boats that we charter are like tooth picks if a Megladon were to bump us. So just to answer your question I couldn't imagine it. It's like a nightmare just thinking about it.
