Extreme Beach Shark Fishing!

This is by far one of the most extreme land-based shark fishing videos on YouTube! We hooked and landed two hammerhead sharks at the same time, a double header hammerhead. GEAR USED: Bait Used --- Bonito Hooks --- 18/0 Lindgren Pitman Circle hook Leader --- 20ft leader with 6ft of #19 wire and 14ft of 500lb mono shock leader. +Blacktiph how much do you think that massive one weighed? looks like the shark has a massive girth, congratulations on such an amazing catch, I'm stuck up north and shark fish the beach for the past 5+ years now and tag them, mostly sandbar sharks I've caught up to 200lbs. we have monster 300+ sandtigers, but they barely fight compared to sandbars.

WTF Do you realize the prejudice you cause to these animals.. I am not even talking about risk of them dying..
The energy they spent is enormous..

Every saltwater beach in the world has sharks.
Every single one, unless its an artificial lagoon or a lake type lagoon that is brackish. Even then it may still have bull sharks.

If you can't deal with the fact that there are sharks in the ocean, don't swim in the ocean. Its their territory, not ours.

Catch and release is cruel. The shark is scared first because the hock has lodged into the side of his mouth, then he is dragged up on a beach, and when a fish leaves water, it starts to suffocate. Then he is dragged around in positions so people can get pictures and then is dragged back into the ocean. It's no wonder some sharks attack humans, they probably remember an ordeal like this. And if one of these fools gets bit, looses a limb while taking photos, are we supposed to feel bad for him? I won't! You play with matches you get burned! Please find something more helpful to the world, why not tag them like shark experts do. I am sure they wouldn't mind the help!
Jbay2608
Jbay2608 - 8 years ago
+Corey Mondello You are very misinformed, about everything you just commented about. Sharks don't attack people because of memories, they do it usually out of mistaken identity, associating us with a prey item. Secondly, have you ever seen what damage they do to each other when they mate? They leave horrible bite marks on each other, our hook in the jaw is a small matter compared to that.
BlacktipH
BlacktipH - 8 years ago
Sharks don't attack people because of bad memories. All fish are instinctive creatures. God made us in His image and likeness and gave us the animals to have dominion over.

Hey I recently lost a pretty big shark i was fighting it on a 12 foot ugly stick big water with a penn fierce im not sure what size i think 8000 its one of the biggest sizes i have it spooled up with 400 yards of 60 pound braid with a 30 foot leader of 100 pound mono and i was using a type 480 steel wire with a size 10 circle hook and i hook into this shark the thing feels like dead weight for about 5 mins then it takes off it starts peeling line off i put my reel max drag and it is still peeling line it actually begins to take line even faster at this point i have 60+ pound drag set and it has already taken around 100 yards off of my reel i fight it for around another 5mins and it never stopped running never paused and let me gain my line back it just kept running and ended up spooling my reel how would i stop a fish like that and how big do you think that was?

Jbay2608 - 8 years ago
+JDshootsalot Some species are quite tasty, black tip and small greys especially but it's best to harvest the smaller ones, because large sharks can have a high level of mercury in them, also never use the belly meat. The very thick steaks from their backs are excellent, especially grilled. Soaking in milk helps to soften them over night, also always cut them up soon after capture to avoid the ammonia smell that can come from the meat.

Why don't you follow your own advice you have posted on your website? In all your videos, you drag the shark onto the shore. Complete hypocrites...
"Never pull a large shark fully on the beach! Make sure that the majority of their body weight is supported in the water. Remember, sharks don't have bones. If you bring them completely out of the water, their body weight will damage or crush their organs."
...yet here you are, dragging the shark clear out of the water, just like all your other videos. smh

Regardless whether they feel pain or not, they caused them a fair bit of discomfort. There's an open pool in Melbourne aquarium where there are small (maybe 5-6 feet long sharks). I've been actually trying to grab them gently on the fin as they were circling the pool. Was 2 of them, well one got really annoyed with the grabbing tho it was quiet gentle and lashed back at me. Luckily I reacted quickly or might be missing a joint or two by now. SO THEY DON'T LIKE BEING TOUCHED OR HOOKED AT ALL. Hence my reaction to this "fun" video.

I'm 100% with you.....but (and there's always a 'but'.....) at least these guys didn't actually kill the sharks. On the bright side, sharks manage to cop a great deal of injury as a result of their hunting, mating, and general life. They're pretty robust.... I don't think that, with exception of a minor disruption, they'd be any worse off. Catch and release may not be the best thing, but it's better than some dickhead catching one of these great animals, gutting it alive, then leaving its carcass on the beach. At least these guys have respect for life. I get the challenge bit......But there's always Everest, if you want a challenge.

Spinning reels don't do well against big sharks. I would recommend purchasing a conventional setup. We let him eat and then throw the lever in strike position. Then we slowly increase the drag.

Unlike humans fish do not possess a neocortex, which is the first indicator of doubt regarding the pain awareness of fish. Furthermore, certain nerve fibres in mammals (known as c-nociceptors) have been shown to be involved in the sensation of intense experiences of pain. All primitive cartilaginous fish subject to the study, such as sharks and rays, show a complete lack of these fibres and all bony fish – which includes all common types of fish such as carp and trout – very rarely have them. In this respect, the physiological prerequisites for a conscious experience of pain are hardly developed in fish. However, bony fish certainly possess simple nociceptors and they do of course show reactions to injuries and other interventions. All this being said...we as somewhat intelligent beings can be kind when removing a hook or kill our catch humanly and quickly. There is no need to be brutal, pain or no pain felt!

Because you're essentially endangering and torturing animals for no reason other than mindless entertainment. I have nothing against hunting or hunters, fishing or otherwise, and I respect the sport of hunting; however, if you are killing or harming animals for purposes other than food, or as a way to make your dick look bigger, it is demonstrably apprehensible.

The type of pain in fish (as it is written in literature), is without "the full range" of nociception typical of humans or other mammals, but they feel an other type of pain, not known to humans. For to know it, humans have to experience the consciousness state of a particular fish. It is extremely unlikely that they don't feel anything at all. That's just non-sense from a physical, natural, and logical perspective. Keep in mind that, analgesics and anesthetics are commonly used for surgery on fish, for a reason.

strengthening a species is a bad thing? catch and release has promoted strength in fish because as basic as there instincts are. they might be stressed pulling into shallow water. but you know how elated that shark must of felt when it was over with? that's what they do with sturgeon on the tidal fraser river is catch and release. and most of the time they record it. but its hard to record a shark out of water without a sling and proper tools because if you want the shark to live you need to keep water moving through its gills since it barely force water through it themselves. they don't have a big buccal cavity that allows them to expand the volume of there mouth to suck water through. LMB didn't start getting stupidly huge until sports fishing came along. and gouging the fishes esophagus and throat out? maybe if your using a barped hook and the fish doesn't have a solid bone plate for a jaw....I'd agree. but even in fish that have softer tissue jaws its mostly bone. the only nerves are in the corner of the mouth so it can obviously open and close it. Bass for instance have no feeling in there upper or lower lip. and most of the time don't bleed at all when hooked. unless like I said. you gut hook them which happens to everyone now and again and is the reason I use a barbless hook. I haven't killed a fish since I started flattening barbs on trebles and or using just barbless hooks from the start if I can. but most lures come with barbs you have to flatten yourself with a pair of pliers. but YOU make that decision. a barbless hook only hurts during the puncture process. normally there so sharp you don't even bleed afterwards. and if you do. its only a drop or 2. after the bass has its lip punctured and its through . all it feels is the force against them. its not in horrible pain. it might be scared and stressed but like I said. you don't think a fish is exhilarated to be release after you set it back down in the water and it gets its bearings?

Jim Rustles
Jim Rustles - 10 years ago
Haha okay buddy. I guarantee you, that something you own is made form a dead animal and that you've probably eaten an animal. I bet you think football or baseball is a great "sport," right? The balls used in these games are made from leather and skin. Oh no! Yea that's how stupid you sound, trying to be all philosophical on YouTube. By your logic (a word a YouTube warrior like yourself throws around a lot) killing an animal and dumping it back but not doing it for the "sport," is perfectly fine. Same with just killing it on the spot and eating it later; that's fine with you? You make it seem like catch and release is the worst thing you could ever do to it. Oh and by your logic yet again, If i kill someone just because its "for living," I am entitled to do so and its fine! I just dont understand
why you're on a fisherman's channel, antagonizing them?
BState

You confuse "being a loser" with just "having a personal and valid view about something". If you don't like what I'm saying, move on to another comment and don't waste your time here. What bothers me really is not what these guys are doing, but that they do it "as a sport" ! That's what makes it and your ideology "completely retarded", if you have at least some logic in your mind. Anything that harms conscious creatures by calling it "a sport" is ridicoulous! And you say about animals that have killed people... for sure the didn't do it "for their sport" but for living!
Anyway, one day you will grow up (intellectually) and you will understand.
Jim Rustles
Jim Rustles - 10 years ago
+BState media Why are you getting so butthurt at the guys that are doing it for the sport and releasing them back? There are people who purposely kill sharks and eat them. You sound fucking retarded bro, why are you even watching fishing videos if you're going to be a loser about it?

Ok, with such a logic, if we (humans) didn't get cancer and we could regenerate any body part, with much faster healing... then it would be ok to do absolutely the same to humans too! Just think a little what you're saying...
Except if for you it's not ok just because we are humans... then ok, it's a fact that human logic is screwed up completely!
An example to make you "think": Just tell me logically, if lets say there was a possibility that after your death you will be incarnated into that shark, would you like such an event to happen to you? If not... why?
Think of it wisely, I hope you have the brains, it's not hard.

Treating the sharks with respect? Are you serious?
Imagine yourself being "pulled" from water with a "hook" that's hooked into your mouth, tearing apart your internals of the mouth or the canal of the esophagus. Just for fun... And then you are released back to the sea, with such a memory from humans. Would you attack a human after that or you would understand their "passion"? That's not passion. That's a completely senseless / impassible / insensate act.

I don't quite see the purpose of the whole expedition.  Just taking a photo "look what we got"hoping to become viral in the internet, doesn't make you brave for torturing a wild animal. On the contrary, you look senseless and stupid.

I donate 500-1000 dollars per year to Wild Aid's shark conservation programs. People who "torture" sharks are also the ones who work the hardest to protect them. But you probably don't want to hear that.

+Grid Xenomorph  No disrespect but you don't know what you're talking about. Using proper hooks and release methods, 100% of sharks can be set free and they shoot off as soon as they're back in the water. The only chance a lactic acid build-up could kill a fish is if you are using an undersized setup (meaning the lb test of the line is too low) making the fish fight for too long. Using the proper gear assures you bring them in before that happens.

marina go paint your nails or something, these guys are catching something you wouldn't have the mental capacity or physical ability to do. It's pretty aparent to the youtube users that you haven't had to work for anything in your life and in the mere chance of you ever having to survive on your own that you would fail miserably.

+5a1tY  agreeing as to fish do experience pain, but it is nowhere as intense as us humans experience it. They do show a lot of care in what they do, and I don't believe that they would ever cause harm on these animals on purpose.  As much as their enjoyment is on what you believe is making the shark "suffer", they do in fact put consideration and credit towards the creatures.
5a1tY
5a1tY - 10 years ago
+BlacktipH Yeah, cause obviously your enjoyment is much more important than the suffering you cause. Imagine if you were doing this to any other kind of animal, tearing up their mouths then dragging them to a place where they can't breathe just for your own fun.

At least they let it go unharmed. And before you say "unharmed? It had a hook pierce it's mouth!", I've had numerous hooks go through me, and it just stings for a second (and this is coming from someone who faints when getting her blood drawn lol). I love animals, and feel bad putting live bait on a hook, but it's fishing. The shark has forgotten about this by now, and is probably eating some innocent fish as we speak. :)

all you anti whatever s need to stop posting negatives comments about leaving the the "majestic" creatures alone. i bet if one of your limbs was in between its jaws then lets see if you'll say, Oh no hes a majestic creature leave him alone. and anyways the sharks are released harmless and its fun to go fishing for huge sharks you should try it sometime and get of your lazy asses taking selfies or whatever there called.

I have never lost a shark due to #19 wire kinking. I have lost many sharks that bit though cable.
BlacktipH
BlacktipH - 11 years ago
In this video we used one strand. I like to use double strand because the rig lasts longer. 1 strand might only last for one shark. Most of the time you can catch many sharks on a double wire rig before it's too kinked.
fhpd350
fhpd350 - 11 years ago
Yes Im curious as well. I have seen your other shark leader making videos where you used cable for big sharks on kayaked baits. So you're only using single strand wire doubled with a haywire twist? Have you ever lost a big shark using the way wire twist? It looks like cable crimped would be much stronger. Thanks for your response Josh!

After a drill like that the shark will be tired, so removing the hook with pliars should be okay. Otherwise, cut the string next to the hook, as most people use hooks that will rust. This allows the fish too shake the hook.
